Back-to-School Backpack Distribution in St. Mary’s South Helps Students Start the School Year with Essential School Supplies

The St. Mary’s South Branch of the United Progressive Party (UPP) has launched a Back-to-School Backpack Distribution throughout the villages of Bolans, Johnson’s Point, Crabbe Hill and Urlings.

Through this initiative, children receive backpacks filled with the necessary supplies to head back to school feeling confident and ready to learn.

All of the materials were donated by members of the community and the private sector.

The program is designed to demonstrate to parents that their children are supported and valued by the community.

UPP Candidate for St. Mary’s South, Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, a former school guidance counselor, knows first hand about the hardships that some families face in purchasing school supplies.

“We want every child to return to the classroom equipped with the tools necessary to succeed.

This is about giving the children a great first step as they start a new school year.

Any family who needs help with basic back-to-school supplies will receive new backpacks and supplies,” Simon stated.

Over 150 children received new backpacks filled with pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks and other essentials.

Some of the children wrote thank-you notes to express their appreciation to the various organizations that made donations.

“Times are rough and this backpack distribution comes at a much-needed time. Many families have to make hard decisions between buying clothing and supplies for school, signing up for sports and after school activities.

So anything we can do as a community to put smiles on the faces of these children, while easing the financial burden on parents, is what we’re trying to achieve,” Simon added.

  1. Great initiative. This is a good way to motivate our children by showing that you and the rest of the community actually care.

    • With the money Max get from the Deluxe bail out he should be giving 7000 bags not 700. All like he help drain the Treasury!

  2. The government of Antigua and Barbuda 🇦🇬 should insist that Shuggy repay the taxpayers money 💴 that received under false pretense’s that he wasn’t eligible for. If it was an ordinary citizen they would have garnished the money 💴 from their payroll. Why is Shuggy different from anyone else?

    • Why are you not asking for all the politicians and their cronies thieving the peoples resources, including all the lands in Barbuda to return them? Shuggy’s salary pales in comparison. And he earned it not stole it.

    • @Ras Smood so if he wasn’t eligible why did the Electoral Commission let him run? Why did Parliament swear him in?
Sound like a lot of negligence.
      Just stop your ignorance!
