(Antigua News Room) Multiple murder accused Delano Forbes accused a police officer of setting him free on the day police said he escaped two years ago.

Forbes is on trial in the Magistrates Court on a charge of Escaping Lawful Custody for the February 12, 2018 incident.

The prisoner, who was charged with three alleged murders at the time, had reportedly agreed to show investigators where he had hidden bloodied clothing.

The Court heard Forbes, who was reportedly restrained with foot cuffs, was in the immediate custody of Corporal Greg Grell as he led five officers through bushy terrain in Swetes Village.

On Wednesday, the prisoner testified Corporal Grell told him the police were setting him free because a senior police official said there was no evidence on the murder charges.

Corporal Grell, who also testified at the trial, denied the allegations.

Grell said Forbes jumped over a cliff and disappeared into a gully.

The officer said he did not jump after the prisoner since the cliff was too high.

A manhunt was later launched but Forbes remained on the wanted list for weeks until he was recaptured by police on March 9, 2018.

He was later charged with a fourth murder after police alleged he killed 62-year-old Maurison Thomas while on the run.

Forbes is also accused of killing Wilfred ‘Bongo’ Williams, Shawn Henry and Lisue Samuel in 2017.

He was branded “Vampire Killer” after police alleged he drained and drank the blood of his victims.

The accused is being represented by attorney Sherfield Bowen, who intends to question the senior cop at the resumption of the trial next week.

  1. Let the legal system handle this. IF he’s a killer he’ll have to face the gallows. A life for a life.

  2. Please keep up the reporting line on this one! Very interested to know how a man ‘allegedly’ in foot cuffs was able to run off, and out-run several officers. Was it this defendent that was recaptured and some sort of bonus fee was paid to the police? Or am I confusing that with another keystone calamity!?

  3. I find it rather ludicrous that a man in ankle cuffs could just leap over a cliff that high to the extent that he even could have gotten so far from them in foot cuffs to evade them . That na mek none sense.

  4. My lord really and truly you cannot run to far when your feet is under lock and keys. So either the police release him or there was never shackles on his feet something really not adding up at all. Let the case continue waiting on the out come of this.

  5. Attorney at work eh?

I wonder if any family member for the victims resides in his constituency? If so how will he campaign to them? I am just doing my job……..

    • I am wondering the same thing. TESSA BARTHLEY’s family still lives in the constituency where Sherfield Bowen is running. Will he go to their homes during his walk throughs and campaigning? On what platform will he campaign? Tessa NEVER got to live her life to the fullest.
