Valorant Fans in Uproar Over the Game’s Depiction in The Family Plan

It’s already rare to see video games making into live-action movies and even rarer to see them being shown correctly. Nevertheless, Simon Jones (the movie director) showcasing Valorant in his latest live-action comedy movie has made one thing clear, Valorant has become a global phenomenon.

However, a slight, rather eerie, error in the depiction of the game has Valorant fans shifting in their seats.

On December 15th, 2023, Valorant hit the big screens on Apple TV+; thanks to Mark Wahlberg’s movie, The Family Plan. No, The Family Plan is not a film about a protagonist making it to the top tier in the esports world. It rather has a totally different story that has, in no way, a link to video games.

As such, one cannot help but question why Valorant fans are in uproar. More importantly, how come Valorant made it to big screens?

About Valorant

Valorant is a 5V5 hero-shooter video game that was developed by Riot Games in 2020. Each hero character in the game has a unique set of abilities and falls into one of the 4 defined roles that further ramps up the strategic and tactical nature of the game.

Soon after its debut, Valorant was quick to rise in popularity. While it has many similarities to rival titles such as CS2, Overwatch 2, and Apex Legends; it is unlike any other 5V5 shooter game out there.

Valorant primarily stands out because of its neat management and highly optimized gameplay. Riot Games, the developers of this game, implement cutting-edge anti-cheat technology that makes the game environment safe and fair for all.

Why Valorant Fans Are in Uproar Over the Movie?

So, coming back to the topic, why Valorant fans are in uproar over the movie, The Family Plan?

The Family Plan movie stars Mark Wahlberg and the plot revolves around a former top assassin who must take his unsuspecting family on the run when his past catches up to him. However, things got quickly spiced up over social media when a scene in the movie featured Valkyrae and iiTzTimmy, two of the top popular streamers and content creators around the world who play Valorant.

As the scene unfolds, it is revealed that Mark Wahlberg’s character’s son, who goes by the name Kyle “Kyllboi” Morgan, is competing in a pro-Valorant LAN show match alongside Valkyrae against a team led by iiTzTimmy. As such, Kyle almost single-handedly wins the match in the final round with a Chamber ace.

And that’s when Valorant fans noticed a very eerie detail.

Each map in Valorant is ingeniously designed and is suited for a particular set of agents. The match in which Kyle was playing was Fracture. However, the agents on their team were a mixed bunch that looked like they were assembled without much prior thought. They were Harbor, Cipher, Chamber, Sage, and Fade.

If you are a serious Valorant player, you would know how bad exactly this selection of agents is for Fracture!

As such, an X post showing a clip of this match garnered much criticism, with users commenting “He must be a pro player in a universe where everyone playing Valorant is a traffic cone,” and “This literally made me want to jump into a trash compactor and get squished like a tomato LOL”. One commenter even said, “i am in shock”.
