UPP Youth Resignations Prompt Leadership Discussions
August 4, 2024
Jonathan Wehner, an executive member of the United Progressive Party (UPP), addressed the recent resignation of four youth executive members from the party’s youth arm.
Wehner, who is 22 years old and a former chair of the Progressive Youth, emphasized that the details surrounding the resignations are still under review and that party leadership is scheduled to meet with the departing members to discuss their concerns.
Wehner challenged rumors suggesting that the UPP does not value or support its young members. Drawing from his own experiences, he asserted that such claims are unfounded.
“From my perspective, the UPP has demonstrated significant respect for its youth,” Wehner said.
He highlighted his own role as a representative of the party’s policies on Observer Radio and pointed to several young members who have risen to prominent positions within the party, including former MP Anthony Smith and current high-ranking officials Kelvin Shugy Simon and Honorable Jamal Pringle.
He reassured the public that the resignations do not signify a broader crisis within the party.
“The youth members who resigned remain part of the party, and we are working to address their grievances constructively,” Wehner explained. He emphasized that the leadership is committed to resolving the issues and ensuring continued support for young people within the UPP.
Wehner concluded by affirming the party’s commitment to its young members and urging the public not to view the situation as a sign of turmoil. “Our youth are an integral part of the UPP, and we are dedicated to their development and advancement within the party,” he said.

There must be some urgent bridge building and straight talking with the Youth Executive Members within the UPP.
Just Like when you bringing up your own children, they must be taught the possible pitfalls and crevices in life; and furthermore, that there’s nasty and vindictive people outside with ulterior motives to hurt them.
My “brilliant” advice to them would be to look around at honest and successful people and learn from them at how they reached the top to success.
PICK THEIR BRAINS.
Sometimes straight talking to the yout’ dem can reap much benefits – they need good mentoring and nurturing.
UPP bridge building to counteract ABLP’S movement towards a one-party state. Simple!
Three cheers for UPP and Brixtonian; hip hip … 😁
That young man is talking from a position of privilege. His father is pushing him in the party so he could replace Alex Browne in St Phillips North.
He needs to try to rehabilitate his father who made a jackass of himself at the UPP Convention. He seems to mean well but is trying to wear shoes that are not his size.
REPLACE Alex Brown????? LArd a wah you a say day??? So Alex will be the next CASUALTY of Gisele and her elitist, dictatorial, domineering tactics?? wow!!!
It’s very simple, replace the chairman and opposition leader… the chairman is thin skin
