REAL NEWS – The United Progressive Party (UPP) is expressing concern about the number of sexual offences being reported – especially those involving children – even as two new complaints have been lodged.
According to reports, the Police are investigating an allegation of indecent assault against an adult female, who complained to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that a known man had touched her legs inappropriately.
Reportedly, this offence occurred on September 22 at about 3:45 p.m. at Cashew Hill.
It is reported that the victim gave the alleged offender a ride and, while he was in the vehicle, he rubbed her legs without her consent.
Reports claim that officers questioned the alleged offender, but he has denied that the incident occurred.
However, the Police detained him on suspicion of committing an indecent assault.
Meanwhile, after a woman took her seven-year-old granddaughter to the Special Victims Unit (SVU), a case of serious indecency is being investigated.
It is alleged that the child was sexually assaulted by a known man on two occasions: on October 7 and October 10, respectively.
Last Friday, October 13, UPP Chairman D.Gisele Isaac stated that the Party is unhappy with the Police’s response to the growing incidence of rapes.
She said their reaction has been sub-par, at best, and the information being communicated is inadequate for public safety.
Additionally, Franz deFreitas, the Party’s caretaker for St. John’s City South, sees the rising incidence of sexual assaults as an epidemic – and it appears to be one that the Browne Administration does not want to tackle seriously.
