Lovell says ABLP Benefitted From the CIP Windfall

15

United Progressive Party leader Harold Lovell said:

“So they’re boasting about doing this and doing that, but of course they have the money to do it.

And where is the money coming from?

It’s coming mainly from the CIP.

We’re the ones who introduced the CIP and paid the ultimate political price because they, in a hypocritical way, went and argued against it, marched against it, ticketed against it, and then when the time came, they just hugged it up and they’ve benefited from it.

But we’re the ones who had the foresight, because when people like Lennox Western and Max Harrison were out there marching and saying that we’re not going to have the CIP program,

As soon as they want, they turn court and immediately embrace it as the greatest thing that ever hit Antigua.

So we know that we are on the right track, we’ve made the right decisions.

Decisions that affect people in a positive way, and which has made the economic fortunes of Antigua easier to navigate in terms of attracting ventures in investment and that sort of thing.

Of course they’ve made a mess of it, but that’s a separate matter. ”

      DEM EVIL AND HEARTLESS

    • Lovel u may have great plans on paper but in real life u do have the ability to manage. You are just filled with hot air
Gaston, a man with vision & a man with foresight is able to lead & manage with distinction. His track record speaks for himself. We are still waiting to see yours…. Action speak louder than words and so It is leadership that matters and not a mouth filled with hot air

      • @Bluddy Bloke. What VISION!! Must be only someone as blind as you can see it. Where the hell is that vision as St Kitts is making us look like a bunch of fools? And, what happen tp that Economic Powerhouse? It’s not even talked about anymore much less happen. Tell your “Vision man” call the election since we cant wait to vote out his backside.

  2. And the country has not benefit one iota from the CIP scheme.

Infrastructure in Town still looks awful. How does anyone with a disability or visual impairment get around?

Pot holes everywhere, and vehicles having to swerve around them constantly – and we then wonder why we have so many unnecessary road accidents.

Gassy, ah wha’ you do wid de 2 BILLION CIP money?

Well said from the Honourable opposition Leader Harold Lovell 👏

    • All the noise you Guys are making is just HOT AIR. UPP will NEVER win ONE seat in Antigua again. Lovell is a SPENT FORCE. UPP is FINISHED. Stop the DAMN noise making.

      • And you damn well try and explain yourself why you think Gaston Browne and the ABLP are doing so well @ ERIC CARDEN, instead of more ‘tupid SOUND BITES that doesn’t even come close to explaining Antigua’s dire economical predicament at present.

ANOTHER UTTER IGNORANT ABLP GENERATIONAL SUPPORTER. WOW!

        • … people like you are the reason Antiguans have such weakness regarding political views around the world, because we accept second rate politicians and their self-enrichment schemes, and an infrastructure that’s just not fit for purpose.

See what I just did there @ ERIC CARDEN … again probably not!!!

  3. CIP moneys have been used to clean up the mess left by UPP. While UPP between 2004 to 2014, hardly did not anything to deal with Social security bad fortunes, ABLP used about 35 percent (3 million monthly) of the 100 million annually on average it raised via CIP, to help bring relief to pensioners. It is well known that for more than 5 years under UPP, the government paid nothing towards its workers benefits into SS. Instead early in their term they increased the benefits, but provided no funds to provide said benefit. The SS actuary (Derick Osbourne) essentially during the UPP term declared the scheme bankrupt. Such can no longer be said today.

Under ABLP the 320 million IMF loan, taken under the UPP was fully paid back. The 22 million SEMBCORP arrears was fully paid back under the ABLP and we now own the plant. The over some 80 million in arrears to WIOC were fully paid back under the ABLP, and A&B now has majority ownership of that biz. The 250 million EC, moneys collected under the UPP for fuel which were to be paid back to Petrocaribe, was not. Luckily, for tax payers, in about 2018, Venezuela wrote off half of the debt.

Never again can the failed experiment called the UPP be elected into office again. It They would be worse than covid.

    • @ tenman

sing sing sing for your last supper.
I will post the recording of MAX HURST admitting that they used up social security money and left it broke because they not suppose to have so much money.
Also it was the monies left by UPP that the BROKE ABLP used to pay off the IMF.
And then go and borrow loans at local commercial banks @ rates of circa 14%.
Your government is so incompetent that they can’t even pay workers overtime, clean the environment, fix roads. Antigua has never been so hard yet. The incompetence of Gaston and all the enriches is blatant. And you expect Antiguans to vote these heartless bastards back into office with all the poverty, starvation and suffering in this country? Not to mention crime and all the ‘dirty rotten scandals’ – a trade mark of the ALP.
      THEY GOT TO GO.

    • @Tenman. C’mon! If the 2 billion was used as you say to clean up, then we should be debt free right now, and not be in more debt than during UPP time. So try again and make more sense this time. All of that ,questionable, debt that you mention cannot come up to the 2 billion in CIP given to ABLP to pay for them. In other words, UPP left the means to pay for their debts. So now that ABLP cannot pay for the 94 loans they got over the 8 years-and still borrowing, which is really the cause of our present almost failed state, its still UPP’s fault??
Question to you: what will ABLP leave UPP to pay for their 94 loans???…waiting.

      • @Zackie, clearly like Lovell you are bad at math problem (can’t count)- 2014 – 2022 is 8 years hence 800 million @100 million a year. What’s your new argument?

    • Tenman Hughes, stop taking people for fools.
Did ALP left any unpaid loans in 2004.
I guess the list is too long for you to list, just like the WIOC, ALP transactions are too unbelievable to mention.

  4. Max Hurst marching up and down the sidewalk:” My passport not for sale”!
Molwyn Joseph in Parliament: ” Passports will be sold over my dead body”

That was when the ABLP was in opposition.
When the ABLP became the government, THEY LOVED THE CIP . The SAME SAME CIP THAT GAVE THE ABLP 2 BILLION DOLLARS.

    REPEAT 2 BILLION DOLLARS.
