The United Progressive Party (UPP) is poised for its biennial convention, contingent upon the St Mary’s South by-election result, according to acting leader Jamale Pringle.
Scheduled for October 24, the by-election prompted a UPP press conference with candidate Kelvin Simon, who resigned earlier in June.
The primary goal, as Pringle emphasized, is reinstating Simon to the House of Representatives. Simon stepped down as a Member of Parliament due to concerns about a potentially protracted election petition questioning the legality of his December 2022 nomination while serving in the Ministry of Education.
His political adversary, Dwayne George, a former UPP ally, is now running on the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party ticket.
Pringle, succeeding Harold Lovell, who resigned post-general election loss, faces competition from Pearl Quinn-Williams and St John’s Rural West MP Richard Lewis for the UPP leadership.

As much as the worst has been said about Pringle…he will remain political leader of the U.P.P….. he will defeat Richard Lewis who is a better choice…but the votes will go Pringle’s way.
Hope there’s no interference from Harold Lovell …he is very still an influential figure in the party….Harold let Pringle takes this on his own merit ..let him proved that he is the leader the party needs to transform it from it’s jurassic state…
