U.S. Embassy Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens: Potential Tropical Cyclone

Location: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, St. Barthelemy, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Martin

Event: The U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean alerts U.S. citizens that the National Hurricane Center is advising that Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 is headed towards the Eastern Caribbean. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours, and the system is forecast to become a tropical storm tonight or Wednesday.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the system is forecast to move through the Leeward Islands on Wednesday, near or over the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Wednesday night, and near or over Hispaniola on Thursday.

Tropical Storm Warnings are currently in effect for Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, St. Barthelemy, St. Martin, and St. Kitts and Nevis.
