Dear Barbudans,
As a young woman who grew up in an “all green” household, where land has always been the topic of discussion in our home especially around election time
I am fed up completely fed up with the hearsay, the confusion, and especially the endless drama that surrounds this topic. Enough is enough. Land alone cannot feed us, land alone cannot build a future, and land alone cannot secure the next generation.

While some of you keep arguing and holding on to the same old narratives, the younger generation is being left behind. We are the ones who have to live with the consequences no real opportunities, no proper development, and no clear direction forward. There have been so many opportunities (Scholarships, YWIL,Youth Parliament etc.) That have presented itself to me, but my parents would have my neck if I dare accept anything from ABLP.
It’s time to wake up and think bigger. Think about our future. Think about our health. Think about what we are actually leaving behind for the next generation. Sitting down and accepting the same cycle over and over again is not helping anyone.
Barbuda people, wake up! Stop settling. Stop being distracted. It is time for a serious, bold change. The future depends on it.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!.

YEAH RIGHT-
PLEASE ‘YOUNG WOMAN’, DON’T TAKE US FOR FOOLS, guess we can say the same for you, fed up of people like you or a figment pretending or being used by the CABAL.
ABLP, please stop it.
Well that’s funny cos land alone can sustain and can build a future. Depending on how you use it. To be entrepreneurs, to farm, to build on your own land. All of thaf is sustaining and in barbuda it might take a little more imagination but great things are possible.
Development will see you turn into Antigua. Slaves again. Cleaning houses and tending gardens of billionaires who don’t even pay you enough to live well. Thaf is the antiguan way. Serving the visitors. That’s all you will get to do. Anf then you will wonder why the society has degraded and why your young people are angry and start to steal and land up with no morals, ethics or empathy. Be careful what you wish for.
Land alone can built your future and next generation, without it where will you build projects? If Barbuda is divided up and sold what will you do in that situation?
As far as I know that is the alternative provided big Air strip, hotels and land sold to rich people that is in Gaston’s name. once all that is done what is the next step? Working in a hotel everyday serving people is that your big plan? Or is it being confined to a small area of Barbuda and live in segregation while the rest is sold?
Land limited people understood that for centuries which is why Barbuda have that land policy if it didn’t it would just be another island that end up like Puerto Rico, South Africa, Hawaii or the other number of countries and areas that experience it. Look at Jumbybay there are so much restrictions on there you think people are just making them up and once you have a situation where majority of the land of owned by rich foreigners the least problematic and commonly done option was to buy back the land at market value then how will you develop Barbuda when you already spend money on just getting back to square 1.
Yes Barbuda is underdeveloped and deserve more but that’s also it’s bigger advantage where it can build into a paradise for Barbuda’s not billionaire yacht owners but they people who grew up and live there.
Demand the government repair ever single building destroyed by Erma, policies to prevent such a event from affecting them again, and projects that provide something to do because once your country control it’s land you control your countries destiny. That’s this the bigger picture.
Well said!! You should continue to share this to your friends/family including the undecided and those who opposed you and your beliefs.
well said writer. Time to REJECT THE BPM LIES AND BRAINWASHING!
You are a misguided young woman, if that is indeed who you are.
LAND IS EVERYTHING. Most wars have been fought because of land. If you don’t have land, you have NOTHING.
That is what will happen to Barbuda eventually and even you would have to go to Antigua to live or go somewhere else because there would be no land for you except in the room you change into your maid or waitress outfit.
If what you want to say out loud is the green should let Gaston Browne and PLH have the land in Barbuda, then say so. But don’t come with your stupidness about looking beyong the land.
IDIOT! MISGUIDED SLAVE! Harriet Tubman wrote about you with tears in her eyes.
Young lady whoever taught you this go back and tell them dont do it again. Please..
It’s Because of this land, of Barbuda,my mom Miriam Harris, could have put the cutlass to the the tree, the hoe to the ground and give us a better future, whereas we could have actually go to America ok. It’s how we/you use the land.
Whoever is feeding this are teaching youhow to turn your back on your land, and side with them.In the long run when its all over,if they get what they want they’ll throw nickels at you and me..
If they get they’re hands on this Diamond we’re done for tut, mun,& bagi,I dont know if I, say that the right way.I am just trying to say that’s how bad, they wants to get their hands onBarbuda..Barbuda is Gem..
Less than a hundred years ago, some Germans and Romanians were offered refuge in Palestine. Today, they have become Occupiers and the Palestinians are now Refugees on their own land. They have been disposessed by their Guests and tens of thousands of them have been executed during the process.
All dem letters rolling in all of a sudden. No sarry dey. The PM called the sorrowful election on us so deal with that now. But I see straight through this as well. Labouur is d writer. Just read carefully!!!
The ABLP candidate is a Pro-Land Give Away Candidate. Traitor traitor your ass is on fire !!!
I discern the writhing of the ALBP candidate in this misleading letter.
His thinking that opportunities in Antigua and Barbuda can only be derived from the ABLP ripping off the land and handing it over to rich foreigners.
He was previously a waffler on the subject. But ever since Ron Saunders and Gaston bailed him out in Pennsylvania he has been signing the praises of Gaston and has become pro Gaston.
I know many Antiguan youths are not about building a solid life for themselves, but don’t be that ignorant young barbudans.
All economic growth starts with the land. You ever heard the term ” from the ground up” well take that literally.
Be wise.
“…the claimants have NO REALISTIC PROSPECT OF SUCCEEDING in their claim under section 9(1) of the CONSTITUTION!!!
“The Court found that the Appellants did NOT have a PERSONAL RIGHT of property in the leased land. Rather, the Land Act provided a SCHEME for the collective rights of Barbudan people as a class”

Well here is my two cents….
Land can feed you yes, but are you farming it?
Land can sustain you yes, but not if you don’t own it! What will you take to the bank as collateral? What will you secure that educational loan with?
You cannot pass anything down to your children besides the house that’s on the land.
Also, Antiguans cannot buy or otherwise obtain land there, so Barbudans should not be allowed to own land on Antigua.
Instead of looking at it as foreigners buying up all the land, why not as BARBUDANS just own it all. Go to the bank as all of us do and buy your land and put all this nonsense to bed once and for all because best believe that you will die and leave it.
I am a firm believer of safe guard and protect the land but at the same time there are ways that the land can be used that will be beneficial.
Thee Barbuda Council has several committees namely Finance, Agricultural, Heath, Works, Sports, Education, each committee has a chairperson and members, each committee has staff which are on the payroll, my question is how productive service are each committee to Barbuda.
If an evaluation was be done on each of these committees they would fail the evaluation.
The Council Office business hours is from 8am to 4pm, but the staff them show up to work 10am or 11am leave at 2pm, if anyone has business to conduct and arrive at any of the offices at 8am there’s no one, this is happening over 20yrs while this is still happening is because some Councilors is of the opinion to leave it as is because they’re securing the vote X when election time.
Agriculture is land, there were areas that the Council has workers plant different vegetables to sell to the community this is not happening anymore.
Most of the committees not functioning at its best, Walker talk about it on a video that the council workers are lazy when ask to work they don’t but as the chair of finance the workers still get full pay at the end of the pay week.
The Barbuda Council is operating slack shop old people say dolly house this is the truth, some persons or employee of the Barbuda Council travel every year stay away 6months or more come back today go back to take up duty tomorrow with all the benefits intact.
The health system is the worst in the world it’s was not like that routine blood checks could be done, dental procedures could be done EKG could be done alot was done at the hospital previously, why the down turn, and talk about the dumpsite it’s out of control
.The MP and the BPM council should held accountable for conditions of the island these were before Hurricane Irma and get even worse after.
The scripture say ask and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be open. The hospital has and extra machine that is none operational persons were trained at Belmont Clinic to operate the machine one of the candidate is still at Belmont Clinic the other since change profession.
@ Same thing over and over, and @ Gdiva Harris
You have highlighted the many troubling issues that plague governance in Barbuda.
It amazes me that the people who are against the policies of the ALBP, of placing Barbuda on a foreign developmental steroids, has no alternative plan.
The island is a mess.
Equally significant, are the practices and lack of practices that you have outlined.
The Barbuda Council has always been a dysfunctional group, irrespective of which political party is in power.
In addition the Parliamentary Representative Walker, who serves as Chairman of the Barbuda Council Finance Committee; has demonstrated no meaningful purpose, but to grand stand in Parliament, and go to church on Sundays.
Trevor Walker is all learned helplessness and “whataboutism.” In being that way he has opened the door for his opponent to squeeze in.
Walker does absolutely nothing but will wage a campaign on the land issue, knowing how emotional the people are about the land.
I repeat: Barbuda is a mess both figuratively and actually. It needs to be cleaned up.
The ALBP plan for Barbuda is not the answer. It’s a give away
The current ALBP candidate says he is willing to work the Prime Minister. He also says Barbuda needs to be developed. He gives no specifics, but thrives in rhetorical politics.
He has not outlined or offered any proposals or specifics which would help Barbudans make choice decisions.
It’s unfortunate for Mr. Beazer has been one of many who claimed they were sensitive to environmental issues; but now credentialized he is joining those who wishes to ravishingly destroy Barbuda.
As the person Beazer is trying to displace; has not offered effective economic plan for Barbuda.
Barbuda immediate need is for effective management; and an immediate personnel overhaul. Not for an economic or development plan.
From my observation and what I have encountered in getting the simplest response or action from Council personnel; as a former CEO, many individuals on the Councils payroll needs to retrained for pursuit of small business and entrepreneurship.
Others who remain on the Councils payroll needs to be retrained and held accountable for their work and responsibilities.
The Council redeploy the saving that results from reducing payroll costs to services such as sanitation and healthcare.
Again: Barbuda’s needs to be cleaned up.
Barbuda now has 4 generations with hardened positions on what serves their best interests.
Should this continue, if not this time around the ABLP will prevail.
Let’s get beyond selfishness, be real and create the world that Barbudans have been fighting for since 1860. One of environment stuardship, equity and professionalism.
All I would say is that when we got independence and the black politicians come to power, the attitude of the white colonial administration devolved to the black man, they treat their people the way the white people treated us like we are in a concentration camp, the council should have set up and encourage barbudans to build small rooms on the beaches for rent, and not keeping everyone in that township ghetto in Codrington as the white man did, but the black people got to live each other to share the land and resources with all instead of an elite circle.
If barbudans were allowed to take control of the lands instead a just that rethorical land in common statement just for comfort of the mind, we need it to be tangible, but anyway! Just keep away Gaston and ALP and Kendra from power over Barbuda.
