Two years later, no Royalton Resort at Deep Bay

On June 2 2015, the Government had reason to celebrate. It had signed another multi-million-dollar partnership with Sunwing Travel Group.

The company was to build a 500-room all-inclusive resort under the award-winning Royalton™ Luxury Resorts brand at Deep Bay.

The investment was said to be $400 million, creating 2,000 jobs.

Brenton Henry went to Deep Bay and found that the only thing erected there is a billboard promising the opening of a resort this year.

So much for the new jobs for Antigua and the “massive injection to the economy in the form of incremental tourist dollars”.

It is important to note that Sunwing also went ahead with an agreement to buy Grand Royal Antigua in 2016.

It is not clear if that purchase has been completed.
