Two CBH employees arrested for allegedly stealing fuel

State Funded Media is reporting that the police have arrested two employees of the Vector Control Unit in the Central Board of Health after they were allegedly caught stealing diesel.

The fuel was intended for use in spraying locations across the country with stagnant water, to curtail the breeding of mosquitoes.

One of the employees was reportedly found with at least five gallons of diesel at his yard, while the other was also found with a quantity of the fuel at his home.

It is reported that the workers colluded to siphon the diesel which they collected each morning to carry out their duties.

Police are investigating reports that the diesel was being sold to a trucking operation.

The authorities reportedly acted quickly when they were alerted to the racket.

  1. THIS IS THE KIND OF BEHAVIOUR THAT IS HAPPENING IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE, ” THIS FEED WEY YOU TIE ” MENTALITY. WORK AT CUSTOMS …NO WANT PAY DUTY. WORK AT INLAND REVENUE…NO WANT PAY PROPERTY TAX. WORK AT PUBLIC WORKS..WANT FREE AGGREGATES. WORK AT APUA…NO WANT PAY UTILITY BILL. MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT…NO WANT PAY FOR ANYTHING.
NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW

    • @Dion Pelle…😎they’re all avenues, that lead to #residual_incomes and perks, in an Economic Powerhouse.

  2. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I have shown it many times where public servants are abusing the very same government system, they work in. It is common knowledge that a mother would use the printer at work to print all their child’s projects or syllabus out at work. Or that the choir member prints all their hymnals at work. Or that the school bus driver uses the government bus on Sunday to pick up church members that need a ride. Or that the backhoe operator uses Public Works heavy duty equipment to do a private job. You name it is being done. So I won’t pick on these two workers for such a little thing.

    • Yes, we know you have no integrity and you condone criminals — perhaps you’re one too.

Anyone want to bet they’re ALP supporters? Sideline comment is a dead giveaway.🤣😂🤣

    • How about the hundreds of Civil Servants and others using Government Vehicles 24/7.They run them even on weekends. That has not one damn thing to do with their duties. That needs to stop, like yesterday. A waste of financial resources that belong to The People. I am now wondering how much $$$$$ it costs the Treasury yearly for fuel usage bills by Government vehicles.

You really don’t want to know. Creative accounting has left it out of the books for many many years. In the budget each department get an amount for transportation. But guess what, WIOC will deliver the fuel and when they settle monthly Consumption Tax with the Government they first deduct all the fuel delivered to the Car Pool and other departments such as the SLBMC and Defense Force. And now Alfa Nero. So, let’s say WIOC would have to pay Consumption tax for the month $3Million, then they deduct all these fuels delivered let’s say $1Million and pay the balance to the Treasury of $2Million. And since the Treasury is doing Cash Accounting only, they book as Revenue Consumption Tax $2Million and not the real amount $3Million. The $1Million is left out of the books. And therefore, there is no control at all. And even if there was, the accounting of this would mean doing accrual accounting. There is no cash involved in this. And I also believe if the respective department had been charged their fuel consumption, they would go over budget. And Free Balance would not allow them to do that. So many vehicles would run out of fuel.

Poor people get arrested. Rich people get richer and richer From thieving and even get knighted. Same law should apply to all.

  3. the ones on the lower end on the chart get arrested. What are we going to do when the politicians are guilty of doing worse? Say that’s my leader? Judgement should not base on status, what goes for one should go for all. These traits are learned from our leaders in power right now. Let’s stamp out corruption from the top to bottom.

  4. Let us pretend the PM did not say that they moved people out of his constituency to help his colleagues win…..
Let us pretend that no money went missing from the police credit union.
The police are doing an excellent job without fear. Favor, malice, or……

  5. Just like the meat and produce ordered through institutions find its wY into private kitchens and pantrys.

    • It seems that everyone can tell of instances of corruption in the Public Sector. Yet everyone is blaming the politicians who are nowhere close to where this is happening. If Ms. Martin was not a person of integrity she would have killed this story long time and just give them a warning. A Reprimand. But she chooses to bring in the police. Some people, when they use or misuse government resources, do not even see this as a crime or as unethical. Going to the printer and printing your private jobs is seen as a very normal thing to do. You do it for the church anyway. No crime in that. All for Jesus. That wouldn’t be possible in the private sector. It is very hard, near impossible in this country of ours to run a public sector at the most economical and lowest cost. I have pointed out the stealing that is going on at National Housing. At the Carpool. At Public Works. Not to mention APUA. If we could cut the corruption by 50%, we would be able in my guess-timate to save at least $10Million annually. Of which the fuel makes up the larger part of it.

  6. From the sidelines unbelievable observation
“just the tip of the iceberg. I have shown it many times where public servants are abusing the very same government system, they work in”.
A little diesel is chicken feed here and there is just chicken feed compared to what the politicians steal and the bad deals the people of Antigua and Barbuda are saddled with.
    Hypocracy knows no bounds.
