Reports say that the woman, a United States citizen staying at the Barrymore Beach Apartments, went to the Criminal Investigations Department and complained that an unknown man had damaged her rented silver Toyota Rav 4 while she was on Redcliffe Street.

On the day of the incident, she had parked the vehicle – rented from Hertz – on that street.

While there, an unknown man – said to be about 6 feet in height, dark in complexion, and wearing a black shirt – tried to extort money from her.

When she refused to give in to his demands, the man allegedly damaged the right fender and quarter panel of the vehicle with his foot.

Officers conducted a search for a suspect fitting the description but without success.

  1. Insanity is an unpredictable illness therefore removing them from civil people would.be best until they are stabilized.
What happened was very unfortunate and it could have been worse.
Let’s protect our people and our tourism product.

    • Is not insanity,is substance abuse. Too many young punks and vagrants around the saint jhons. And the vigilante???? . Maybe in bars or hidden somewhere.

  2. I’m due to come next month. This crime rise is something I’m not looking forward to. Everyday tourists are being robbed and injured. Next thing will be a state of emergency like Jamaica.

  3. I am from Antigua.I come to Antigua every year. This year we are not coming there.I do not want to be walking and looking over my shoulders.I would not have my 9MM to defend myself.

  4. I’m also an Antigua with property there, that lives in another country. I have not been back for a while, and now considering selling up. It’s no longer the beautiful place it once was, and the government have no interest in the welfare of the people. Only themselves. Such a shame…
