2022 Saharan dust episode

A thick plume of Saharan dust has descended upon the eastern and southern Caribbean, casting a hazy veil over the region.

The dust, carried by winds from the Sahara Desert in North Africa, has engulfed countries from Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago in the south to Barbados and Saint Lucia in the east.

Advisories have been issued by the local meteorological agencies due to the health and safety risks associated with the dust.

“Air quality is thereby reduced and sensitive groups should take the necessary precautions,” the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service said in an advisory.

A small craft advisory has been issued due to reduced visibility caused by moderate to thick haze.

Fox News’ Saharan Air tracker shows hazy conditions will continue into next week.
