Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said there is “no guarantee” he will lead the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) into another general election campaign.
Speaking to State Media, Browne said the party must begin strengthening its second-tier leadership and preparing the next generation of political leaders.

The Prime Minister, who has led the ABLP to four consecutive election victories, said political leadership depends on public support and that succession planning must be approached realistically.
“There’s no guarantee that I will be your leader going to the fifth term,” Browne said, adding that he takes a “scientific” approach to politics and public opinion.
The remarks come days after the ABLP secured a commanding victory in the April 30 general election, winning 15 of the country’s 17 seats.
Browne said the party could not rely on a single individual and must develop capable leaders to maintain its strength in the future.
“We have to develop a second tier of leadership within the party,” he said, while warning against internal divisions that could undermine party unity.

This is just fluff. He might as well have also said “there is no guarantee that I will not be the leader”. He has no intention of giving up leadership at all. He will have to be voted out as he will not voluntarily leave.
THEY ALL SAY THAT UNTIL…..
Whether you support him or not, Gaston Browne has had a major impact on Antigua and Barbuda politics.
The real question now is… who next?
The real question now is… who next?
Great news, but I’ll believe it when I believe it!
I think because of the recent criticism, the Prime Minister knows the writing is on the wall, and it’s not if he leaves but when.
Chet Greene is still a firm favourite, but Gaston Browne will make sure it isn’t him.
Here’s Brixtonian’s contenders including odds (and ABLP supporters don’t complain, because you all always up inna UPP’s business 🤔):
1) Melford Nicholas – Going quietly about he business (1/1)
2) Maria Bird-Browne – For obvious reasons for being married to the Prime Minister (3/5)
3) Darryl Matthews – My former favourite, but seems to have gone quiet in recent times (2/1)
4) Chet Greene – Strong favourite at one time, but he knows Gaston 🥸 ah watch he good bwoi (5/1)
5) Randy Baltimore – A definite dark horse, he seems to be growing in stature ever since his by-election win
6) Max Fernandez – He was visibly shaken after the African airline fiasco, but has recovered when rumours were around about him retiring (10/1)
7) Dwayne George – Muscles, brains and with youth on his side. Gaston would prefer he than the ‘Grissal Back’ man (15/2) 🤣
8) Rawdon Turner – A Gaston Browne loyalist, and won’t rock the ABLP boat, but if offered, he will take it faster than you can say “manifesto promises” (20/1)
9) Kim Johnson – A female who can take on any of the contenders with ease. (50/1)
10) Lamin Newton – Even though he couldn’t dislodge the Honourable Jamal Pringle, it was a lot closer than many people thought (100/1)
11) Michael Joseph – I’ll admit I don’t know much about him, but a cabinet member must have something behind him (250/1)
12) Steadroy Benjamin – Too much of a Gaston loyalist, and when asked to “jump” by the PM, his response seems to be “how high” (300/1)🤣
13) Michael Freeland – Very underrated by colleagues it seems, maybe too early at present (400/1)
14) Anthony Smith – A remarkable win in All Saints West over the Honourable Harold Lovell, especially after leaving the comfort of the UPP. I didn’t see him winning ASW at all (1,000,000/1)🤣🤣🤣
After all this though, Gaston Browne going “voluntarily” is akin to saying ‘
“How long is a piece of string…”
Hmmm PM you better stay put. Lol
See if you focus on antiguans your ppl you would stay 40 years those you think on your side came for the hand out
Don’t give no more amnesty 1444 votes they using you and the country

Is it Chet Greene or Marie Btowne who will be the PM/leadership leading into the next General Election?? Or has our country been sold to the one we borrow the highest from and can’t pay?? We the people demand to know, it’s our country too, Gaston Browne.
