A 43-year-old man, Kergus Martin from Liberta, was fatally shot in the country’s sixth homicide of the year, prompting police to take a male suspect into custody.
The shooting occurred at 11:00 pm on Tuesday, August 6, in Shanty-Town, a popular gambling spot during Carnival celebrations. Martin was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:50 pm.

The suspect is reportedly cooperating with police but has not yet been charged.
The gunman, wearing dark clothing and a mask, fired multiple rounds at a group under a tent, injuring Martin and three others. Martin and a 28-year-old from Gambles, along with two individuals aged 17 and 18 from Liberta, were rushed to the hospital.
The 17-year-old has been treated and released, while the other two are in critical condition.
Authorities believe the incident may have stemmed from a dispute and are interviewing witnesses to gather more information.

Besides the gambling, what about the dope dealings and prostitution?
The Organusers of the Summer Festival MUST set up the proper, uniformed VENDING SPACES and lease them on a short term basis to potential vendors.
A…Food Courts should be separate from the Gambling Area.
B…It’s time to include an area for Crafts and Arts, this would help with updating and upgrading the Emancipation aspects of the Festival.
C…Add a KIDS ZONE with an aim to attract families during the daytime.
D…NO SOUND SYSTEMS should be allowed in the updated Shanty Town model, except where there’s a Stage and area set aside to accommodate performers.
E…The Shanty Town Area MUST be closed by 2:00am except during #Watch-night and J’ouvert Morning.
F…NO VENDING ALLOWED after LAST LAP. The entire area must be cleared in two weeks.
The idea of allowing individuals to build any “shack” made from anything is long past.

Doing all of that won’t help to stop the crime….your just adding more problem to the problems that are already there…….how come u don’t talk about having police all over over town and not just in one area…..how u don’t talk about the street lights that are needed……..even if u close down shanty town people ago still rob people and and killed dem if they have to……..shanty town just need to be looked at and be dealt with the right way……there are too many loop holes and shutting it down just gonna make it worse….and the part where u say no sound system…. something must be wrong with u……if not everyone want to be in the bangarang year time and rather to go shanty town to chill but I guess u don’t know nothing about that so u rather things go your way….but Anna suh it work
