St John's Police Station

Officers at St. John’s Police Station on New Gate Street initiated a sit-in protest on Monday due to substandard working conditions.

The eastern section of the facility, which accommodates the prosecution department, criminal records office, and guard desk, has been overrun by mold.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, the Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Public Safety, and other senior law enforcement officials are conducting an inspection of the premises.

  1. Absolutely embarrassing that our police men and women have to work under these disgusting and hazardous health conditions.

I have been an advocate for better pay, equipment and conditions for our law enforcement officers.

Is it really beyond the police commissioner and government ministers to sort out this VEXATIOUS situation forthwith?

    DOESN’T POLICING MATTER?

  2. I am indeed puzzled by this report. The police precinct has CLEANERS. If they are inept, then get rid of them.
What “bad conditions” are they talking about? If they need a fridge, better ventilation, AC or more seating, the new Ambassador will sort them out. There is no need for any protest.

  3. So let’s talk about the St.Johns Fire Station because Mold, Termites, Centipedes, Rats and the works is there makes me wonder what is taking them so long to sit in as well.

  4. Give me a break walk through for what that building was condemned a million and one times. They find building to relocate other government offices but the over worked under paid police get nothing.

  5. Caller: Hey chapping up dung ya COME NOW!!!
SJPS: Sorry Sit-In taking place cyah help right now

All jokes aside I hope the SJPS gets a proper make over. I always pass by on my way to work and see the tribute to fallen officer Cpl Common on the wall with mold next to it smh..

  6. Are these the same police officers that take delight in putting people in the shining holding cells with human feces?

  7. Are these the same police officers that take delight in putting people in the stinking holding cells with human feces?

  8. St. John’s Police Station Officers Stage Sit-In Over Mold Infestation and Poor Working Conditions. Is this real what I am reading? I got locked up once Lord, they put me in this cage. My God, I swear I was going to die, and the police barking at me go inside, push this gate behind me like he is happy to do it. My God so there smells, Roach, Rat, Spider, Shit, Piss name it, it’s in there. So Mister Officer please don’t complain, take it like a man.

  9. It is sad that it took the police that many years to stand up for proper working conditions at this location. One would remember back in 2013 when Vere Bird III and Jim Galloway (now deceased) were arrested for a picket staged outside Shoul’s Toys Gifts and Housewares store nearby the St John’s Police Station. The police officers beat, cursed, abused and falsely imprisoned him and Jim. He then sued the police and was awarded $150,000.00.
He then brought to light the inhumane conditions at that police station. But like everything, politics kicks in. The UPP was in power so not a drum was heard from the usual suspects.

    • @ sideline, The Labour party rules antigua from the 1950’s to 1971. Then from 1976 to 2003, then currently for 9 years. Do the math and tell us which party has been in power the longest. The conditions at the holding cells and even at the prison is their fault.

UPP meager 2 terms could not clean up years and years of ALP mess

    • You go on like nothing ever happened like this under the 40-odd years of Birdism and Browneism @ From The Sideline – you’d defend this lot even ahead of your own family.

Crawl 🦀 back under the rock 🥔 you came from.

UPP ARE ON AN UPWARD CURVE …

  10. Remember this is the economic powerhouse.

Remember we doing so good but yet still our police stations are dirty/nasty; our clinics are closing for the same thing (St. Mary’s South people know this) and most government offices/premises are in deplorable condition.

St. Mary’s South voters, vote for Kelvin Simon in the upcoming by-election.

Samantha Marshall is a part of the destruction of this country by this labour party government.

  11. The money generated from the restaurant & bar at the southern section of the Police Station’s compound can more than abate these minor nuisances.

Where does this money go BTW??
