Motorists in St John’s are facing increased fines as traffic police step up enforcement against illegal parking in the capital.
Officers have been patrolling key areas, issuing tickets to drivers parked in no-parking zones, on sidewalks, and at blocked intersections. Authorities say the move is aimed at easing congestion and improving pedestrian safety amid growing traffic pressures in the city.
The increased enforcement has been most visible along busy commercial streets, where several vehicles were seen being ticketed within short periods during recent patrols.

Police say the crackdown is necessary to restore order, particularly during peak hours when St John’s experiences heavy congestion. They have warned that continued breaches could result in tougher action, including vehicle towing.
However, some motorists argue the problem is driven by a shortage of parking spaces in the capital, especially during the daytime rush.
Despite this, authorities are urging drivers to follow traffic laws, saying illegal parking disrupts traffic flow and poses risks to other road users.
Police say heightened enforcement will continue in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to address the issue.

Afterall there must be a way to creatively have people pay for all the gee way this silly season!!!
The Police are the worse offenders. Check the line of illegal Police parking on Newgate Street and on Thames Street. The law has to apply to everyone. This cannot be right.
I hope they will start with Popeshead Street which is NO Parking on either side. Popeshead Street is now a major artery into St. John’s for Point, Villa, Mackinnons, Yorks, Paradise View, Marble Hill, Blue Waters, Crosbies and Crosbies. Persons trying to avoid the traffic congestion on Friars Hill Road.

I usually agree with your comments, not this time. This has taken too long to happen, I always thought to police was neglectful in this regard, it’s everywhere in town as well as country. Bolans is a classic case, you can’t walk on the sidewalk it’s as though it was specifically made for parking and riding bicycles. Police see it every day and don’t do shit
What become of the car park on Independence drive?
Give me a break!! They will ticket local people, but despite numerous pleadings, Joseph Lane remains untouched. Seems like the short skirts in the Spanish community are enough to keep the the police bedazzled.
Feather parking within St John’s would practically double the available parking spots. The feather parking was discontinued because the sitting administration wanted to force drivers to park at their soon-to-be-opened Sunshine Hub.
Re-enable feather parking and solve the scarcity of parking spaces in the city
Driving on Popeshead is absolutely ridiculous and this is every day of the week. People do not care how and where they park. If this was properly addressed it would be a great improvement in the flow of traffic

Hope the consider your idea. But they may be too bumb to admit they were stupid in the first place
This is the best thing yet. its crazy when you can barely get through roads because of how people decide to park. making some spaces so small! this shouldn’t be done for the city alone. ALL OVER
Police issuing tickets is one thing, but where exactly are people supposed to park during the day? The real issue is the lack of proper parking spaces in the city. If the police and the government, then they will be no need of issuing tickets. But, y’all want our little money plus tax. hmmmmm. WE NEED A CHANGE.
