Fake census agents robbing homes, police warn

Criminals posing as census workers are targeting households in a series of reported home invasions, police have warned.

The suspects, claiming to be from the Department of Home Affairs, use fake documents to gain entry under the pretext of verifying ID cards.

Authorities confirmed the operation is a scam and not part of any official census activity.

Victims said the impostors appeared convincing, wearing formal attire and carrying what looked like government credentials.

Police have urged the public to deny entry to unverified individuals and to report any suspicious visits.

Residents are also being encouraged to alert neighbours and relatives.

  1. “Police have urged the public to deny entry to unverified individuals & to report any suspicious visits”…Great, makes sense but how do we know if the presented ID is fake or not??? Please publish & show on all media what a bona fide ID is…before it’s too late
