House Arrest for prisoners on remand in Antigua and Barbuda

Cabinet Notes: The Cabinet has endorsed a plan to reduce the population of Her Majesty’s Prison.

 

Those who have been granted bail and are unable to meet the monetary threshold will be required to report to the Police Station in the mornings and the afternoons.

 

Those on remand will be confined to their homes with tracking bracelets, and will be checked on with frequency.

  3. Remand Prisoners Tracking Bracelets: are these IN ADDITION to the covid bracelets OR are the covid bracelets being repurposed and that requirement at the border stopping?

    Please reassure the public that prisioners on remand for VIOLENT CRIMES will still be secured in government facilities and NOT braceleted in the community.
    This is critical for the law abiding general public peace of mind. (Including abuse/rape victims security).

    • I am wondering if you had a good read of the article: if you were granted bail and dont have the money to pay. & if you are on remand.

      I am really proud of our cabinet for thinking outside the box especially at this time. We have to remember that we are not safe if COVID takes over the prison, it certainly will find itself on the outside since it did not take very long to spread across the globe.

        I sure did read it well.
        On remand = ‘pre-trial detention’.
        I am deeply uncomfortable with VIOLENT CRIME PRISONERS ON REMAND being allowed to stay home with tracking bracelets as we KNOW from the covid bracelets how LAX / INEFFECTIVE the tracking has been.
