Prime Minister Gaston Browne has emphasized, “Caribbean is still a paper-based society and that the transition…has to be phased in such a way that you don’t make it too fast too soon.”

He reiterated the need for a gradual shift towards a digital economy in the Caribbean region.

Browne acknowledged, “You have people in the 70s and the 80s accustomed to use pen and paper,” highlighting the challenges posed by deeply ingrained habits.

He also noted specific instances, such as ticket sales for events like the West Indies cricket World Cup, where physical tickets remain crucial due to societal preferences, stating, “You can’t just sell online, you have to have physical tickets to sell people.”

In discussions about digital currency initiatives like Dcash with Governor Antoine, Browne emphasized the necessity of understanding cultural aspects before fully embracing digital solutions.

He cautioned, “The timelines that we originally set…we may not necessarily achieve those,” considering the existing societal norms and infrastructure.

Despite these challenges, Browne stressed the advantages of digital currencies, stating, “The technology is very simple, it’s just a matter of someone walking you through the process.”

He assured that a phased introduction of digital currency options would provide flexibility for individuals comfortable with both digital and traditional financial systems.

He urged a balanced strategy that integrates new technological advancements while respecting existing societal preferences and infrastructure challenges.

Here is an elderly person interacting with PM Browne on the subject:

  1. No, it won’t be more secured. Hackers will find ways to access peoples money. The powers that be will be able to shut off your money if your unwilling or reject whatever they want you to do – for eg… like refusing to take taking a vaccine. It’s already happening in China.
Digital currency will bring an end to your autonomy and agency.
It’s a control system that will reward or punish you for your compliance or non-compliance.
They have already tested out the strategy of taking away peoples access to their money — In Canada, during the covid truckers protest, organizers and donors to the truckers protest were denied access to their bank accounts; and that was with paper money, at least if they had cash on hand they could still purchase goods and services. Imagine how much worst it is going be when there’s only digital $$.

    SAY NO TO DIGITAL CURRENCY!

  2. This ought to have happened long time ago. With all the technological changes in the banking sector, very little consideration has been given to the elderly who were literally forced into adopting the new changes. So inconsiderate!. To date, many of these elderly people who maintained accounts at commercial banks do not have a clue on how to use ATM’s and were forced into abandoning their “bank books” that they were accustomed to.
I agree with the Prime Minister that we must remember that sector of our citizenry that are not so hot on technology and we must seek to accommodate them as well.

  3. Decentralized digital currency is the way to go, not government backed digital currency which is extremely dangerous. The main reason why government backed digital currency is dangerous is because if they don’t like you your account can be frozen.

    • @wadadman8 – just curious, what do you do when a hacker rips off your bitcoin account?
Answer: deal with the loss as you have no recourse at all.

      • @caustic Bastard….They lap their tails like dogs and sit quitely in the corner. By the way what has become of the Abundance Coin. My persons in Antigua had invested in it?

  4. The more people uses cash the harder it becomes for the NWO to institute their digital currency agenda.
Central Bank digital currency (cbdc) doesn’t afford anonymity. Each and every transaction will be known by your rulers . Do you want your government knowing everything little thing you do with your money?
I’ve started to use my debit/credit cards ONLY for online purchases – all others, I use CASH.
CBDC will EVENTUALLY be pegged to a social control system. Social credit scores will determine if you’re allowed to get on a bus, train, plane etc…
The last vestige of freedom depends on mass rejection of CBDC.
