Prime Minister Browne debunks Lies by ABWU’s Chester Hughes

PM Browne

The Office of the Prime Minister has learned that a representative of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU), former UPP candidate Chester Hughes, has been spreading untruthful and incredibly inaccurate claims regarding the payments to be made to former workers of the Jolly Beach Hotel.

A cheque by Government, made payable to the law firm appointed by the court, in the amount of EC$12.9 million, was handed over to the firm weeks ago, in full settlement of the payments due to former Jolly Beach workers.

The ABWU representative is further fully informed that the cheque has been paid over to the law firm, weeks ago, not last week as he has asserted, for onward payment to the former workers of Jolly Beach.

The ABWU has sought to delay the severance payment by wrongly including ineligible former workers.

The information that has been conveyed to the union representative has been confirmed by Lake & Kentish, the law firm in receipt of the $12.9 million in excess of weeks ago.

The use of outright lies and untruthful public statements is the hallmark of the United Progressive Party (UPP) and its operatives.

There is never “a silly season”; always, the re-election of a government is the most important business that a country can undertake in a democracy.

Trying to persuade citizens and electors to believe that the Head of Government is engaged in prevarications, require more than the propaganda and dissembling of the Assistant Secretary General of the ABWU.

The availability of $12.9 million for former Jolly Beach workers has been paid over for weeks; evidently, the government has discharged its responsibility to settle the severance due to the former Jolly Beach workers.

The matter is now solely within the domain of ABWU and their agent.

    • @Smh, it is a pattern under the Gaston Brown Administration to not pay people their severance. I know it too well. Then they turn around and lie saying that they made payments. Blatant lies by Gaston, Cutie and Hurst…. Wicked people will wither like the green herb. They better repent before it’s too late.

    • @ smh how do u know Chester is lying? Or for the matter telling the truth? I bet u are NOT privy to any information so y dont u just be quiet and stop being a poppet?

  1. Thank you Hon. Gaston Browne. Why the hell these UPP People so DAMN LIE ????Chester Hughes ah look man. Damn Liar…

    • What the hell does UPP have to do with this. This Is between ABWU and the government headed by Gaston Browne. You guys are so blinded by colour that you’ll cannot see country & people.

    • GASTON BROWNE-PRIME MINISTER OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA.I HAVE THOSE RECORDINGS OF THE IHI TAPES FROM CARIB-ARENA.SOME OF THOSE VOICES ON THOSE RECORDINGS ARE IN YOUR CABINET.BY THE WAY,DID I HEAR YOUR VOICE? WHAT REALLY AMAZES AND STUNNED ME TO THIS DAY,NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN CHARGED WITH FRAUD.FOR DEFRAUDING THE PEOPLE OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA FOR MILLIONS OF (US $$$$$).WHO WERE THE PRINCIPALS OF BELLWOOD CORPORATION? THAT CORPORATION WAS USE AS A WASHING MACHINE OF IHI DIRTY LAUNDRIES.WHERE BY A POLITICIAN’S DAUGHTER IN ALP BOUGHT A PROPERTY IN FLORIDA FOR US$5 MILLION CASH.AND SHE NEVER WORKED NO WAY.

  2. Didn’t Gaston say the money was in an escrow account when asked a few weeks ago? Why didn’t he say it was sent to Lake & Kentish at that time? Gaston just sent the money a few days ago to the lawyer and now want to twist the story. Look at how he lied about YIDA until he was out of gas!

  3. Lake and Kentish. The floor and the Mike is yours. Tell us your FACTS as recorded by your record. Either corroborate the Prime Deplorable or discount the ABWU front man!

We’ve heard from each individual as to their account of the FACTS of the workers monies. Somewhere in the middle is the TRUTH. Tell us who is more truthful as to their account of the funds. Tell us the chain of custody!

  4. We need to either get a copy of the check showing the stamp date or receipt of payment. or we need confirmation from the Law Office Lake and Kentish as to when they receive the check. As usual the UPPiet will say, the PM lies and the ABLPrs will say, ChesterHughe lies. Facts need to be presented to determine who is telling the truth. I won’t bet on Chester but that is my bias.

  5. @Sidelines: I would not expect you to go against the hands that are feeding you.

There is no one in Antigua and Barbuda liar than Gaston Browne. Gaston Browne, what were the financial losses for Antigua and Barbuda in that FTX matter. Please come on ABS and tell us all the truth and nothing else. I listened to that Union man today on the Radio and believed him fully. You are to damn lie Gaston. When would the Jolly Beach workers be paid. It was suppose to be over a month ago on a Friday. My guess, there are no Friday’s in Gaston Browne’s Calendar. So those Workers would never be paid. Those who are poor in Antigua would remain that way always under your lacking in leadership. All of self, family, and concubines.

  6. A very dishonest leader:
    Water in 14 days

    My signature was forged

I took my vaccine and boosters even when boosters were not administered as yet.

Jolly harbour and government will get money before the year end.

The money has been paid but the union is the hold up.

    This administration don’t love people.

I understand that alot of bloggers on this forum is being paid, but stop being selfish

  7. I believe Chester Hughes. Lake & Kentish need to come forward and make a statement. But anyone with inside knowledge about severance and disbursements knows that what the pm is saying makes no sense.

    • I’m wondering what “weeks ago” means! No definite time! Can the people see a copy of the ledger showing a debit and credit for the 12.9 million. A cheque can be written for any amount but it has no value until it is debited and credited. On another note…was that checked issued before or after the capsule was secretly taken from the belly of “Antigua Airways?”

      Inquiring minds want to know!

  8. *Another lie told by this liard man I never knew my wife was running for politics.

Watch the patterns of lies .
    A Bunch of lying people(ABLP).

  9. Gaston is just a dam liar AS THE SHOP STEWARD NO LESS CONFIRMED CHESTER’S EVENTS AND DISPUTED AND CONFIRMED THE BUNCH OF LIES FROM GASTON.

GET RID A DEM…DEM BROKE AND talking bout competence and cannot even run a supermarket much less government. THEY ARE SOOOO INCOMPETENT

  10. 🤔Plaited hair and locks allowed in my workplace but only in some departments which I find very discriminating yet beards aren’t allowed even though male staff have a valid and genuine reason as it relates to a skin condition.

What are you thoughts Chester Hughes?
Some male employees in hotels tired go skin doctor for letter to present to their workplace.

For some men shaving clean a mash up dem face.

  11. that them fu study about people wellbeing.
just a collect millions from ppl paycheck and gwaan like dem a do the most..

  12. Jumbee_Picknee says…we are not send citizens and Giant African Snails to Pluto. This is simple accounting which can be readily fixed with…

A…TERM LIMITS for the Members of Parliament.
B…FORENSIC AUDITING by Independent Auditing Firms, similar to those that vet CIP applications.

Keeping the Nation’s books in every public department does not require Space Engineers, bots and #Bull_Buds!

    Jumbee_Picknee aka Ras Smood.

    #TERM LIMITS MATTERS

  13. Look, all Gaston had to say is what he said at the end. I paraphrase, Govt has handed over the money and to the escrow entity and we now have no responsibility to the workers. But in true ABLP fashion, they had to spin in order to smear their opponents. This is one time that it was definitely uncalled for.

  14. With Gaston Brown’s history of lies( and there are enough to go around Antigua twice), I am inclined to believe Mr. Hughes. What would the union have to gain by holding out on monies owed for years to poor people? Why would they put ineligible names on a list when they know it would not work? Nothing, absolutely nothing this man claims ever, ever happens, unless he is getting kick backs. With a cultish mentality, there are those who are bound by some deluded sense of loyalty to support perhaps the biggest liar in Antigua’s history. The world looks on, and that can spell trouble for Antigua and Barbuda.
