  1. It seems that every holiday, where going to the beach is a staple, there’s an unfortunate loss of life by drowning. I sympathize with this family at this challenging time.

  2. I didn’t hear of anyone performing CPR on the man. I’m not saying CPR would have saved his life but in this day and age all adults in Antigua should be trained in CPR. We also need have both youths and adults learning how to swim. Living on an island surrounded by 365 beaches there is no excuse for anyone not being able to swim. My condolences 🙏 🌹 ✝️ goes out the family and friends of the dearly departed. RIP

    • If someone is having a heart attack, seizure or a charlie horse, the ability to swim will not help. We cannot assume that CPR was not performed before the ambulance arrived as it was not mentioned. The belief that every person who lives in an island surrounded by water should learn to swim is utopian as many don’t even go to the beach. Even in California where beaches are accessible, many cannot swim.
We pray for the family of the deceased, Mr. Rupert Thomas.

      • Dave, using California as an example is comparing apples to oranges. There are thousands, maybe even millions, of people in California living outside of 500 miles of the beach. I understand what you’re trying to say, but poor comparison. The beaches aren’t easily accessible to “everyone” in California.

  3. My condolences to his family. May he RIP.
As a senior I remember going to the beach for a swim and you could walk out into the ocean with little fear of falling into a sink hole or having the sand slip away under you feet like quick sand. Today because of all the building along our coast line and removal of sand it has made getting in and out of the ocean very difficult. I believe warnings should be posted to alert people , especially seniors, of the new dangers associated with getting in and out of the ocean.
AND STOP DISTROYING OUR COAST LINE WITH SO MANY HOTELS, ETC.
