PM says decision on ABST waiver NOT final

Gaston Browne

Cabinet is set to make a determination when it meets next on whether to grant the traditional waiver of Antigua Barbuda Sales Tax ahead of Christmas this year.

Finance Ministry officials have recommended that there be no waiver this year.

However, the executive arm of the Government has not yet deliberated on this recommendation.

The waiver on the sales tax has been provided by the Government in recent years to ease the squeeze on consumers and to boost spending during the busy yuletide season.

Cabinet is set to meet next week.

  1. It’s Dwayne “🤥”George’s first decision, as Junior Finance Minister, as he tries to recoup some of the millions spent on his failed attempt, at winning St. Mary’s South. The PM is keeping him on a short leash, as he does the peddle back.

  2. In the latest installment of “Who’s getting thrown under the bus”…it’s the ministry of finance, headed by none other than…the Honorable Gaston Browne

  3. Then why highlight it in the first instance PrimeMinister?

Is it because since mentioning it, the critics, many financial experts, commentaries from astute citizens, and the opposition, who are holding this government to account like never before.

LIKE A LION 🦁, THE UPP ARE READY TO POUNCE!

The future is looking good for my children and grandchildren.

When will we ALL realise that Gaston Browne is the problem?

  4. It would be nice if you give civil servants an extra salary for Christmas. It was a promise you made in 2019.

  5. Let me guess!

“We are a government that cares and realize the citizens are struggling we will grant the Abst relief because we are a caring government, not only that we will give a small bonus to assist in the Christmas shopping.”

    2024
“Citizens of Antigua we have to tighten up !
Tax must raise , we have to plus we have the alpha Nero yatch need to be maintained “

  6. Repeal and replace….abolish full salary and free utilities as pension for politicians and senators…. let’s March against that….unconscionable and wicked. Shugy make this your mandate to correct this wickedness….Max Hurst talk bout that…Audley write bout that.

  7. If this government really loves its citizens, then it would do everything in its power to keep their stress level down. This constant assault on the people mental state can not board well for them. Now we wait to see the outcome of this latest happenings. People, please stay prayed up a BEG!!!

  8. Oh please! Using the same old playbook, float the idea then after the outrage come in like a knight in shining armor pretending that he cares.

They will waive ABST even if they cut the time, because he cannot disappoint the monied interest who already imported their cars.

  9. Real pappy show government. This lunatic is just not fit for office, plane and simple. Had we sat back and said nothing, I just bet you he would have done it. Come on, people, check this failure’s track record.
Covid-19, arguably the most difficult time we have seen in our lifetime to date. This clown did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for the people of Antigua and Barbuda. He deliberately kept gas prices high when a barrel of crude oil cost nothing, then bragged of record earnings for WIOC; he called people’s hard earned wages, free concerts and duty free, stimulus; when our neighboring Caribbean countries helped their people, Gaston Browne did nothing for Antigua and Barbuda. Leading up to the January 18tth elections, civil servants and seniors were promised raises and backpays; where is it?
He had every intention of not offering the ABST discount, just like he reduced the dollar barrel duration.
We must rid ourselves of this failure and curse upon this twin island state.

  10. Gaston, move you s***t.

Your time has come. We are just waiting patiently on the next general elections date.

You and your cabal will see what we have in store for you.

  11. This government should be investigated for misappropriation of funds.
How on earth you squandered the people’s money like this with all these bad investments, and get away with it?

In other countries, this man would have been in jail for treason. I know that’s a stretch, but all these lies about investments have betrayed the Confidence of any reputable investor, and that in itself is a direct betrayal of the people of antigua and this country.

All these monies they claim coming in, and we are broke, how?

Impeach this man now, because if we wait four more years to vote this man out, there will be hardly a Antigua to recognize as a viable nation.

  12. Same s$&* different year. He did the same thing with the used car legislation about 2 years ago. The people need to wake up and let Gaston Browne know who run things.

  13. @ Watching,
While you were watching, UPP fell asleep until Shugy beat the ALBP twice with two different candidates.
You have listed many failures and failures after failure and there are more.
During these coming holidays UPP needs to be hard at work preparing for the bogus Budget Speech.
It was a masterwork of data and oratory by Asot during the Budget debates that got him thrown out of Parliament.
They did not want the public to hear the truth so they conspired to kick him out.
There are many opportunities for the UPP to illuminate to the Country how they are being fooled used and abused.
The time is right; even the hanger-ons are felling the squeeze.
Time for a change. It ain’t easy but let the work begin.
Many despots of corrupt government have retired to Saudi Arabia. Idi Amin was the first among them
