PM lashes back at Yves Ephraim, Chamber of Commerce over minimum wage implementation

20

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said: Yves Ephraim served on the minimum wage committee, representing the Chamber of Commerce: he agreed and recommended $9.00 minimum wage to the Cabinet for adoption, to be implemented on Jan 1, 2023.

The effective implementation date of Jan 1, 2023 was announced over a month ago.

Our UPP political opponents proposed $10:25 minimum wage, but Yves and his other Chamber of Commerce members sat silently without objection to the proposed unsustainable increase to $10.25.

I am appalled that having participated and agreed to the $9.00 minimum wage, that the Chamber president and its members are now seeking to undermine the process and to encourage discontent.

The simple solution to the late processing of the minimum wage order is to pay the staff retroactively the paltry $16, per employee for the month of January.

    • When would Pensioners and Social Security recipients are going to be paid? Today is the 29th of January and nothing. Gaston Browne, you are paid on time monthly. While those poor who voted for you and your fat lazy Cabinet Members are starving monthly. Why?

    • Its coming like a thief in the night.

In other words Yves Ephraim, broken down in lay-man terms: YOU ARE A GOD-DAMN LIAR AND YOU ARE MISREPRESENTING WHAT YOU AGREED TO.

    • It’s coming like a thief in the night.

    • It’s coming like a thief in the night.

Yves is NOT FATTER THAN SAMANTHA, WESTON, MARY-CLARE, CUTIE AND MELFORD – ALL HIPPOPOTAMUS

    • It’s coming like a thief in the night.

ANYBODY LIAR THAN GASTON WHEN HE DENY THAT HE SAID THE HOUSES WERE BUILT FOR IN EXCESS OF $600,000? AND

  3. Asot Michael should be a shame of himself. He is so power hungry but the power he getting is the rum bottle

  4. Asot Michael has been introduced, on numerous occasions, as a future leader of the Antigua Labour Party ,now he’s been vilified because he dared to make his intentions of making a challenge for the same leadership known but most egregious is that he is courageous enough to confront the bully head on and spill some truths that we have been treating as rumors. The wounded has now called on his pack to make a vicious attack and here they are; the very ones who have benefited from the ‘future leader. When the transition comes, your loyalty will be expected and then we’ll know who the real cheats are. Odebretch is not bound by any statute of limitations.

  5. When is the next small business pull up? Was it all an election sham? Small business need help year-round not only during the electoral cycle.

    • @ Just Saying

The next small business pull up will take place simultaneously when GASTON AND HIS MINIONS APPROACH THE IMF FOR MONEY ……..IT WILL HAPPEN VERY VERY SOON.

PENSIONERS NOT PAID YET, SALARIES NOT PAID YET, SO WHAT WAS ALL THE EARLY PAYMENT OF SALARIES ABOUT IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER?
WAS IT ALL AN ELECTION SHAM? PLEASE ANSWER

  6. @Just Saying, you just type nonsense for the sake of saying something? Anything. UPP’s promises were never pie in the sky. They were laid out in simple, specific language that even the likes of you can understand. Maybe. Ask Gaston Brown what has he done for Antigua and Barbuda lately. He lied, as he always does, about UPP claiming they will lower cost of living by 25%. When crude oil was worth nothing, did he extend the savings to us? Of the 440 million borrowed in 2021, did the county benefit from it? What happened to the 12 million from PLH? When he was a civilian he signed an 80 million dollar thing with the Saudis. Was that even legal? Man, think, if that’s remotely possible for you, before typing these nonsensical things.

    • @Watching.Again I ask, when is the next small business pull up? Do you have the answer or you have become frightened that file was pulled? When is the next small business pullup?

  7. Paltry $16. This man doesn’t have any clue of the suffering of small business. We barely even made payroll to be honest.

Whatever Yves agreed to and whenever, what about even a month or 2 weeks notice to the employers?

This government don’t know retroactive application is frowned upon. Law require people know ahead to set up their affairs.

Why he didnt send out that memo before election call even to give time?

  8. When is the next small business pull up? Was it all a sham from the #UPPNEARGA? Small business need support year-round.
