PM Browne says completion of Jolly Beach Resort deal is close, and re-sale of part of the property will see a new beach club

REAL NEWS-The Browne Administration believes it is close to completing the purchase of the defunct Jolly Beach Resort.

According to Prime Minister Gaston Browne, the deal should come to fruition by this weekend and the former Jolly Beach workers will be able to receive their long-outstanding severance payments.

Following the sale, the Government will then become the owner of the resort, Browne says.  It then intends to sell part of the property – no less than one third – to another developer, who will be building a Nikki Beach with residences.

He says the investor will expend a considerable amount of money on the portion of the property he will receive.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the United Progressive Party (UPP), D.Gisele Isaac, is asking about alleged moves by the Browne Administration to offer a 50 percent corporate tax reduction to the entity tapped to renovate the Jolly Beach Resort.

The deal reportedly includes “free” trucking services for six months, as well as a sizeable pay-out as a penalty for varying the contract.

When the Government gives away so much revenue to big businesses, Isaac says, she is concerned that ordinary taxpayers will then have to make up for the Treasury’s financial shortfall.

Meanwhile, the UPP Chair says the Browne Administration has been a failure.  It has borrowed money for which it refuses to give account, she says, while the country’s roads and other infrastructure remain in a poor state, and severance and back pay to various workers remain unpaid.

  1. You would think he would learn to wait until they deal is completely and deposit sitting in escrow to announce deals. All credibility lost. Even Lester was complaining about the ground fakings and premature announcements

  2. Here’s a thought citizens of Antigua & Barbuda, if our Prime Minister Gaston Browne wins the next General Election – whenever he decides to call It – will he continue with his current spending spree fir the country?

I only ask because people are starting to wonder if this current spending spree by the ABLP is for financial inducements for the coming election?

Or a financial douceur for the coming election?

Which one is it? I’m not too sure …

  3. @Brixtonian. You are giving this man too much credit to even think he is spending money on the island for his people! Nothing is even inked yet, it’s all proposals so far. Where is the spending that you alleged that he will continue if he wins the election? I was just there, and will be back again in December, and the roads and infrastructure are terrible, the city needs a major face lift. First impression is vital, and people who visit Antigua are not impressed by what they see, period. I am not bashing you, for I say all this with a hint of humor and sarcasm.. 😂😂😂

  4. So what happened to Apple Vacations? Who can believe anything this man says anymore? He is just a colossal LIAR.

We went through this same nonsense with YIDA where he changed his story for about 5 years and eventually it died a natural death.
But Jolly Beach takes the cake. There have been at least 8 different versions of the story since May. This is a recurring decimal of desperation from a mad man.

  5. YAWN! How many times must we go through this JOLLY BEACH SAGA!

    HEY, Where is
    From the Sides
    Just Saying

to defend this Jolly Beach saga

Every Monday morning the government has a new buyer.
