PM Browne Pledges to Appoint More Young Senators in the New Year to Ensure Party Sustainability
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced plans to appoint additional young senators in early 2025 as part of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s (ABLP) ongoing effort to ensure leadership sustainability and youth empowerment.
Speaking on the “Browne and Browne Show,” Browne underscored the importance of preparing the party for future challenges and strengthening its appeal to younger voters.
Highlighting the party’s strategic shift toward youth leadership, Browne outlined plans to include individuals in their 20s, 30s, and 40s in key positions.
“This is how we ensure sustainability,” he said. “By the time we find ourselves in opposition—if that ever happens—we will have a cadre of seasoned and relatively young individuals ready to take on the challenge and win back the confidence of the people.”
The Prime Minister praised the contributions of current young leaders, including Michael Joseph, Lamin Newton, Maria Browne, and Daryll Matthew, pointing to their experience and dedication.
He stressed that the party is cultivating leaders who are not only competent but also committed to serving and empowering the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
Browne also acknowledged the role of senior party members who have stepped aside to make way for younger voices, crediting their cooperation in facilitating a smooth leadership transition.
He explained that voters in the last general election had sent a clear message, rejecting certain candidates and signaling the need for reform. “The people of Antigua and Barbuda have spoken. Let us respect their voice, reform, and move forward stronger,” Browne stated.
Browne expressed optimism about the party’s future, noting that a deliberate succession plan is already in place. He added that the ABLP is actively working to attract young talent into the Senate and other leadership roles, ensuring the party’s relevance and effectiveness in governance.

I listened to Hon.Prime Minister Gaston Browne on POINTE FM ( BROWNE and BROWNE Program ) on Saturday. I did not realize the amount of UNEDUCATED Members of Parliament within the UPP. The is the list UPP MPS without a UNIVERSITY DEGREE.
JAMALE PRINGLE
ALGERNON SERPENT WATTS
SHUGY SIMON
PEARL QUINN. Senator
JONATHAN. JOSEPH Senator
The above mentioned are what UPP want to rule Anigua
This CRAZY. No wonder UPP cannot attract good Members. Also the vast exodus of members to ABLP.
Hon. Gaston Browne promised the UPP Members Scholarships. Hope They would accept.
Listened to Mr. Knight on Observer Radio. He said the UPP have the MOST AWFUL SPOKESPERSON such as SPOT ON ( KURT) , RAS I ( EYE), MAGIC HUGHES ( CONVICTED MOLESTER).
The things They talk about are WATER , ROADS and BONES found at BOOBY ALLEY. These are the STPIDNESS on the radio daily.
I will give it that Gaston is progressive, but progressive at maintaining power and not people empowerment, yes for certain white monopoly capital domination is celebrated by Gaston, PLH and yeda and all kind a fly by night investors, I could remember under UPP the complain was that UPP creating a lot of young millionaires, and bahbah
comes to mind with all the road projects Dr Errol Cory gave him, the little savings he had was due to UPP, the amount of local business startup in Antigua in UPP tenure,I am not hearing that in Gaston brown tenure, only himself and his ministers has amassed wealth.
When Dwayne George lose to Shugy AGAIN, what’s going to happen to him? When Lamin lose to Pringle what’s going to happen? Omg, this is so senseless. Then there is Pigmeat. Everyone in Amtigua know The managing director of observer have she a bawl murder in a hotel room. Like ABLP seriously?
Gaston is really fortifying his position as leader with these appointments so they will have to be loyal to him, so thise with leadership ambition will be afraid to challenge him. Even though I’m not a supporter that’s good politics, not like the UPP cutting each other’s throat
Meanwhile UPP promised 25% YOUTH IN SENATE 👀
