Browne Hints at Snap Election Amid UPP Turmoil
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has warned he may call a snap election if the United Progressive Party (UPP) fails to address its internal struggles, marked by recent high-profile departures.
Speaking to State Media at Minister Rawdon Turner’s swearing-in ceremony, Browne stated, “I would be more inclined to call a general election if the UPP doesn’t get its act together.”
The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) recently retained the St. Peter constituency in a by-election following the tragic death of independent MP Asot Michael, who had won the seat after splitting from the ABLP.
While elections are set for 2028, the Prime Minister holds the authority to call them earlier.

Sad state of affairs in this country.
The UPP had better announce their candidates now so as not to urge the PM to calling a snap elections. There is still a lot of work to be done that has been initiated by the current administration. They would need a clear mandate to continue the work. If, in fact, you are unable to remedy the rifts in your party, how could yoi expect to be seen as having the capacity to lead this country. It would get worse internally if you were given the chance.
Carry the sinking ship to shore and find creative ways to plug the leaks.
Gaston Brown, why don’t you go and change the pampers you wearing.. like you start smelling you own mess. You have the people of this country like yoyos. You have won St. Peter, good for you, but that doesn’t give you the right to threaten the opposition to shape up or you going call election. Call it now if you feel you bad but be careful no one knows the future but God and you are surely not him..
Ha! Ha! Ha! The Fable of “The GREEDY Dog And His Bone”????
……… Most of The Persons of the P M’s School Days would know That Fable ……Please REMIND him of the Outcome of THIS Story …..
The arrogance of Prime Minister Browne shows no bounds. To think that he would call a General Election because in his view, the UPP “cannot get their act together”.
My heart bleeds for my country, due to the continuous broken manifesto promises from the ABLP.
As an individual and successful businessman, all I’ve ever wanted was that fellow Antiguans would also benefit as well.
Business opportunities for Antiguans are still wanting; better housing is in dire need; and we are still waiting – after two terms of Browne’s tutelage – for a decent water supply system and road infrastructure.
Antiguans pockets are still empty, and food cupboards are bare, yet the ABLP keep racking-up votes. How?
The political demise in Antigua seems real folks!
It is now down to the “real” supporters of the ABLP to hold Gaston Browne and the party to account for all the above – but will they?
I shed no tears for myself, but for the citizens of this great country of ours.
ALL THE BEST …
