QUESTION OF THE DAY: Are drivers doing enough to prevent the growing number of serious road accidents?

15

With serious road accidents becoming more frequent and more severe, concerns are growing about driver behavior and responsibility on the nation’s roads. Recent collisions—some involving injuries and even overturned vehicles—have highlighted the dangers of speeding and inattention behind the wheel . Authorities continue to urge caution, but the question remains whether enough is being done by drivers themselves to reduce the risks.

  1. Planetary alignments have a lot to do with the earth. As above, so below. We are so naive in thinking that we run things down here. 7 planets in Aries as we speak. Thats a lot of energy to navigate

  2. Wit this bad roads they flying can u imagine wen grassy dread nice up d road dem smh only thing is innocent people always involved

  3. Speeding continues to be a major contributing factor to accidents on our roads, with many drivers failing to adhere to speed limits.
The increase in drivers using mobile phones and engaging in distracted driving, has lead to several near-misses and collisions on the roadways. We are also in a period of time where the vast majority of drivers are young and inexperienced drivers who doesn’t understand the notion of defensive driving.

  4. Since drivers license issuance has been commercialized by transport board in difference to when the police use to be the issuer, their is no driving safety guidelines instill from transport board, and the drivers slow reflex show it is been debilitated by alcohol and marijuana causing the accidents.

  5. We all know that Antigua’s drivers are some of the worst in the Caribbean. it’s been that way for years. The roads maybe poor and random animals wandering around aren’t helpful but the main problem is with the careless, plain bad drivers zooming around at excessive speed, as close as possible to the car in front of them like they are in NASCAR or Formula 1.

  6. It would be telling if we had the statistics for who are normally involved in these road accidents. Many times it’s young men who are bent on speed.

  7. From my experience the vast majority of young drivers believe once you can press the gas pedal hard and have the car flying you are a great driver, there is not a day I have not seen this. Most of them enter curves and corners at the wrong angle at these high speeds and put themselves and other drivers at great risks. Time to get them off our roads

  8. The requirements to get a driver’s license is too easy, most of them have no idea how to “HANDLE” a motor vehicle. Fast driving is going to happen no matter what , so why don’t you teach how to handle a motor vehicle at high speeds, what to do when a vehicle gets loose on wet, gravel and mud. That should be apart of the drivers test.

  9. Drivers licenses are too easily acquired in Antigua. The younger drivers today, are very vicious and arrogant. Although the traffic department is understaffed, they need to carry out regular checks on the roads especially, in the night. Some vehicles have six (6) bright headlamps which can be very blinding when driving in the night. The other problem are the noisy quads, where the riders and drivers create nuisances for people when passing through neighborhoods. They would literally rev the engines, knowing fully well, the noises that they make.

  10. The insurance companies must insist (if there is no such policy/law in place); again, demand that blood and urine samples be taken of all the drivers/operators of motor vehicles whenever, serious accidents occurs.

This is a stipulation by OSHA even on construction sites. All accidents whether they involve motorized vehicles or not, those injured MUST submit to a blood and urine test within 24hours.

Powerhouse economies MUST #level_up with policies/laws, that protect and serve the best interests of the public.

  11. @Ras Smood. You are an idiot. Insurance can’t, won’t and don’t do what you insist.

OSHA (The Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is a United States federal agency that sets and enforces safe WORKING standards for EMPLOYERS and their EMPLOYEES and DOES NOT require blood or urine tests after a WORKPLACE accident. I dealt with OSHA in New York for 15 years and know what I am talking about – YOU DO NOT.

  12. @Ras Smood is an idiot…that’s a good thing, at least, I ain’t no fool where “reading is comprehension” is applicable.

A…in regards to OSHA GUIDELINES read, comprehend and read again SECTION 1904.39,(29 CFR 1904) and tell us who is the “idiot.”

    B…
All 50 States have some form of testing using blood and urine samples after serious accidents. The US SENATE in 2024 passed a MANDATORY DWI TESTING AFTER SERIOUS ACCIDENTS.

After you’ve read these guidelines and are brought up to speed, let’s make interesting with a wager; first please state your real STRAWMAN NAME, and put up a few “G’s” just for fun.
My proceeds from the winnings will go towards a mental health project for the youths in Antigua. They’re kn dire need of some good therapy!

  13. @Ras Smood. You are wrong, lying or are incredibly confused.

    A. Where does 1904.39 mention requiring blood and urine samples after ANY ACCIDENT (your first incorrect claim) or SERIOUS ACCIDENTS? IT DOESN’T!

    B. The US Senate? You’re a moron.

If you think you are so smart (you aren’t), then show me the exact text from the federal OSHA program or individual state program stating the requirement of blood and urine samples after any accident or serious accidents. Show me the link to the website… I’m waiting…

You have been exposed as a typical online fraud, a delusional attention whore so please kindly fuck off and go back to watching cartoons, listening to Alex Jones, smoking spliff, whatever you do because you know jack shit about the US federal or state plans of OSHA.

  14. Just about 2 hours ago I was driving back to the southern side of the island after I left the doctor. On the road by Hall estate there was one of these young drivers in a Honda Fit coming in to town overtaking 3 vehicles I had to slow down to give him room to come through safely, he was just overtaking recklessly. Something must be done to get these fools off the road
