The government is reviewing legislation to improve safety at public events involving large trucks, following the death of a woman during Labour Day celebrations.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced the move after 45-year-old Allissa Chiddick died on 5 May when she fell under a trailer truck during a street parade near Millaz Beach Bar on Fort Road.
Chiddick, from Martin’s Village, was pronounced dead at the scene after reportedly trying to board the moving vehicle.
“This unfortunate event has overshadowed the celebrations and underscores the fundamental need for the protection of our citizens,” Mr Browne said.
He added that new measures would be explored to ensure safer conditions during mass gatherings such as Carnival.

This man makes everything political. He ignores the suffering students and Hurting teachers just to be political. It’s Ridiculous. What next? He’s going to say that the teachers was recruited by UPP and the union?
My heart goes out to the victims. New regulations can’t come fast enough.
This is on all of us—we need safer standards at every level.
Tragic day. Legislation now, not later.
Agreed!!
They’ll talk about legislation now and forget it by next month. Seen it before.
To my knowlegde this was something in the talks some time ago when this happened to another lady. But the don’t care people just do as they feel. All music trucks should be inspected before getting on the road with people who are drunk and thoughtless. And there should be security stopping people from attempting to be on the truck
These laws and regulations were put in place long ago but not really enforced other than at carnival
