Plans for English Harbour Duty-Free Zone to Boost Yachting Sector

5

English Harbour may soon become a duty-free zone to attract more investment in the yachting sector.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne recently indicated this plan aims to drive economic growth and complement other sector developments.

“We’re revamping our yachting program and examining ancillary services to enhance the sector. I’ve asked Senator Philip Shoul, Chairman of the National Parks, to bring stakeholders together for a consultation in the coming weeks,” Browne said.

Transforming English Harbour into a duty-free zone is expected to increase its profile, retain boats year-round, and provide full-time employment in the area.

Browne also mentioned discussions with other ministers and the Director of the National Parks about a maintenance program to reinforce the wharf wall and upgrade Shirley’s Heights.

They are considering borrowing $30 million from commercial banks, combined with an existing $10 million, to invest $40 million in these enhancements.

  1. If you want to help us on that side, please start by fixing the road from English harbor to town before the boat season come back around in November, everyone else have decent road to drive on except us.

  2. Wow! If the good public servant (The Prime Mister) would have proffered a ten-years plan to enhance the infrastructure of St. John’s: to include, and not limited to the esthetic, and general ambience for the benefit and enjoyment of the people: I could entertain the expenditure of (40m) forty millions being spent as a worthy cause. But to even envisage that amount being spent to spruce-up Old-England’s legacy and relics of our enslavement, dehumanization, and torture at their tyrannical hands visited on our people: is downright treasonous; and a show an aura of ultra contempt and disconnect from the people; to even propose borrowing (30m) for an archaic show and tell venue; to benefit foreign straddling interlopers masquerading as offshore capital investors. Sir: I beg that you reflect and, revisit the barrel from which you have climbed. And do remember. The higher the monkey climb the more his ass will show. What! You don’t love your people !? I do.

  3. Borrow, borrow, borrow. Just a day ago clown Browne you were referencing the UPP and there borrowings over 10 years ago, please tell me 2 things and honestly if you can.
What is the current national debt of Antigua and Barbuda and how much money your administration has borrowed since coming to office 10 years ago?

  4. The Yacht Club is good for the $40mil, so why should 99% of the Prople be burdened with a loan of $40mil, probably with interest which will ONLY serve those businesses in English Harbour, which are already milking the #Duty_Free Cow for decades!

The Yachting Community can do this renovation, upkeep, maintenance without losing any monies. They’re the ones who’ll benefit.

How many “locals,” as they like to call those employed as landscapers, painters, bartenders and waiters make yearly?
While the Vendors Mall provide some relief for some “locals;” by providing a 4’ x 2’ Table Space to sell basically the same [trinkets], as in T-Shirts, Tye_Dye wraps, and Chinese made Antigua & Barbuda, W.I., toys and Santo Domingo paintings.

By the way, is this Shoul the same one who was mixed up in the WPP – Wadadli Power Plant fiasco?

One would think, that the Government would wait, on The Alfa Nero money, instead of burdening the treasury with more stress, from loans. Plus, where are all those profits from the English Harbour Rums going?

If that don’t work, why not get Charles the Adulterer, to give up some Royal money to save #Old_Britania’s legacy!
