Prime Minister Gaston Browne has ordered that reports of sea pollution in Antigua & Barbuda be addressed immediately.
He was responding to the author of an Open Letter which was published on Antigua News Room over the weekend.
A concerned citizen wrote to Browne regarding the “blatant and unlawful” sea pollution that continues to take place at the Cove/Dredge Bay area.
In an email response Browne said, “I am forwarding this mail to the head of the Department of Environment to address immediately.”
Chief Environmental Officer Diann Black-Layne responded to Browne by saying “we will prepare a brief on the matter for your consideration. We are aware of the pollution and we are working towards addressing this at its source.”
The sea pollution continues to also affect the waters of the Deep Water Harbour and the beaches on the western side of Antigua.

This pollution of the sea did not begin on Saturday in ANR.It was there since last year in the Summer months.The Environment Department knew of this before then.They did absolutely nothing to address it with ADL.Now Dianne Layne is saying.They would prepare a brief on the matter for consideration.Gabby dee gook.Sweet soundings nothings.All talk and no actions by this NON ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT.
This has been going on for at least 35 years.
Longer than that! Antigua Distillery waste has been dumped in Dredge Bay, since, Wash n Basin days, and the first dredging of the St. John’s harbour in the early 1970’s made it even worst, when most of the silt from the dredging was dumped, opposite Dredge Bay.
They don’t care!
The PM has to publicly address this, and show some concern, since, the Nation is reportedly in line to receive grant monies, to deal with the purported, “climate change/ global warming!”
He should be just as concerned, as to what is transpiring with the YIDA project aka ChinnyTowne.

Hello, Can anyone tell me what happened to the Concern Citizens and the EAG. Are they still active?. Or does this not concern them. Oh I see if it were YIDA removing mangroves they would have been all up in arms. And their drones would be flying all over the place taking pictures to post on Observer website and FaceBook.
These are the hypocrites that I cannot stand at all. They do not really stand on principals. Everything has a political undertone for them. I mean one can see that this pollution has been going on for a long time. So one wonders how is it they didn’t know about it. And if they did why they kept quiet. Is it because the are ll friend and company of the shareholders of ADL? Makes me wonder.
@From The Sidelines…just so you know, a part of my family from Point & Villa have being in the fishing business, for how long, I don’t know. However, they have always complained about the destruction of Dredge Dredge Bay, since, I was a kid.
The complaints just never concerned, the authorities.
Of course, it’ll be of concern now, to the PM, who should know of the stories of Wash n Basin and Dredge Bay,(By the way, a gut feeling tells me Wash an Basin, that blogs here, is the PM), the PM is concerned his government could loose some of those FREE green monies from the Global Warming, and climate change funds being dished out by International agencies.
We have complained about the Salt pond west of Yorks Village.
The issue with Darkwood Beach and its salt pond, etc. So, to say that no one is complaining about the environment, and the waton destruction of Our fragile eco systems is false. They just fall on deaf ears, with wide open eyes looking to cash in on kickbacks, and brown paper money bags.
So since you’ve been complaining for so long and its falling on deaf ears you stop complaining. But with YIDA you get into action and hold all sorts of protest actions. Does that sounds to you like you cared about this area the same way. All I can say it sounds very hypocritical to me.
And those other conspiracy theory that you chose to throw out tell that to the Indians they may want to believe in it. When donor countries give grants for Climate Change project they make sure the funds are spend exactly for the project and the monies are not given to any government account. They do not go through the Treasury. Mrs. Black-Layne is the one that they are dealing with. Not the minister.

You see each time you guys get challenged when you make accusations of corruption and wrong doing you guys come back with personal attacks. Cannot hold an intelligent discussion or support your accusations and allegations with some facts. When I tell you how the donor countries operate you have nothing to refute that. Because it shows you there is no room for corruptions when these donors are giving grants. You all tried that with the relief funds for Barbuda. Not one penny went straight to the government yet you guys try to suggest that somehow monies are used by the government, when clearly the donors have ensured that the UNDP is in charge of the funds. The only time the PM came up was when he demanded from the UNDP that they should not spend monies to purchase materials overseas when i=they can get the same materials from local supplier. And bet you one of the businesses that benefited was Ryan’s Antigua Plumbing. Those are the actions taken by a PM that cares about the people. Non of the grants would be forthcoming had he not gone out to make the case at the United Nation. The same way Mrs. Black -Layne goes out to get grants for our country so that we can benefit from them. But like with everything you guys have to make baseless and none supported claims and allegation. And when you get challenged by persons like me, all you can do is go low and sow your nasty ugly side, thinking that people will now be afraid for you. Well sorry guys not me. Sorry, but the ‘jokes’ are on you, if for one moment, that anyone, other than blindfolded lackeys(ABLP or UPP or any other political party supporter), believes that, TENS of MILLIONS of dollars, are being awarded to the Nation, as GRANTS, and the head of a Government agency, in this case Black-Lane of the DoE, will have total and final say forward, on how these funds are distributed?

The last people that took over a country was Russia, therefore it were the Europeans to include the British and the Americans camouflaged it and called it imperialism.
