Defeated United Progressive Party candidate for St George, George Wehner has been convicted of battery on a police officer.

His co-accused Swanston Lewis, was acquitted of the charge according to reports.

Magistrate Ngaio Emmanuel delivered her verdict in the All Saints Magistrates Court earlier today. Wehner was reprimanded and discharged.

The charge stemmed from an altercation Wehner had with a police officer in September 2016, in Pares Village.

During the altercation, Wehner grabbed the policeman’s hand and lifted him to his feet.
