The UWI, Cave Hill Campus in Barbados will host its virtual graduation ceremony for 1,382 graduands on Saturday, October 23.

This year’s ceremony will see the first cohort of students graduating from the Campus’ new Faculty of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts which was established last year. Graduands from the Faculties of Law, Humanities & Education, Medical Sciences, Science & Technology, Social Sciences, and Sport will also be conferred degrees during the ceremony.

The UWI, Cave Hill Graduating Class of 2021 comprises 1,028 undergraduate and 354 postgraduate candidates.  Among them, 23 are undergraduates with distinction, one with honours, and 154 with first class honours. Three hundred and fifty-six will be awarded upper second class honours, while 276 will receive lower second class honours. Of the postgraduates, two will receive high commendation, while 133 will graduate with honours. Ms Iyka Dorival from the Faculty of Law will represent the class of 2021 as Valedictorian.

International Cricket Council Hall-of-Famers, Sir Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes, will be conferred honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) degrees for their contribution to sport, while internationally acclaimed musician, Nicholas Brancker will be conferred an honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) degree for his contribution to culture. Brancker is also expected to deliver the feature address.

Their conferrals will bring the total to four honorary degrees given by the Campus for 2021.  Earlier this month, a Special Convocation ceremony was held for Dame Sandra Mason, Governor General of Barbados, who was celebrated and bestowed with an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree for her contribution to public service.
