One man was arrested yesterday after investigators discovered an illegal slaughter site in Perry Bay near the former Ribbit Night Club.

Over 100 heads of dead and decomposing sheep and goats were unearthed by police.

Several farmers gathered at the site this morning as they attempted to identify the animals, some of which were freshly killed.

President of the National Livestock Association Emanuel Peters told state media that the Association has been hearing about the existence of these sites for some time.

“I know there was a lot, but I didn’t expect it to be this amount”, he said as he looked at a pile of skulls laid out at the site by crime scene investigators.

Peters said livestock farmers are being seriously affected by praedial larceny and cautioned businesses against buying meat from unauthorized sellers.

“As farmer we know we de-worm certain times of the year, we basically give these animals a lot of antibiotics and all that”, he said, warning of the health concerns if humans consume this meat while the medicine is still active.
