The Medical Association of Antigua and Barbuda Inc. (MAAB), alongside the entire medical community, extends our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sir Dr. Cuthwin Lennard Lake, C.B.E., F.R.C.S.
Dr. Lake was more than a surgeon; he was a pioneer who represented the very essence of progress in our healthcare system. His contributions include:
• Architect of Systems: Beyond his clinical practice, he was instrumental in building the institutional frameworks that modern practitioners operate within today.
• Administrative Excellence: Serving as the Medical Superintendent of Holberton Hospital in the 1990s, he guided the facility through transformative changes.
• Clinical Mastery: As Chief of Surgery, he maintained the highest standards of surgical care and mentored a generation of Caribbean physicians.

Is he the same Doctor who Lester Bird said to “fire him. Just fire him. We will pay.”

Because he refused to declare Papa Bird unfit for office.
Lester was power hungry.
He couldn’t wait for Papa to leave the scene.
He wanted him out.
Dr Lake didn’t approve of the way Lester wanted it.
Lester became animalistic.
The only way he could deal with Dr Lake was to have him fired.
It ended costing us well over $6 million.
Dr Lake moved to Anguilla where he set up a prosperous practice and facility.
Lester didn’t care about the cost.
It was not coming out of his pocket.
Such is how labour party operated.
