The leader of the country’s main opposition party said he will not close any doors for former members of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) who may wish to return to the United Progressive Party (UPP).

Speaking on Observer AM yesterday, Harold Lovell said that he is willing to consider a collaboration between his party and the individuals who have recently resigned from the DNA.

“We are happy that Bruce Goodwin, Malaka Parker and Gatesworth James have certainly reconsidered their relationship with the DNA, and we would be willing to have them re-enter the fold of the [UPP] on terms that are comfortable to them,” he said.

Lovell also said that he believes that the priority should be to defeat Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the ruling Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) administration in the next general elections which are constitutionally due in March 2023.

“The political imperative of Antigua at this time is that there ought to be a united force to fight the Labour Party administration,” Lovell stated.

Meanwhile, former DNA Chairperson Malaka Parker yesterday released a statement denying there were any alleged “secret talks” with the UPP regarding renewing her membership with the party.

Parker also challenged the leadership of the DNA and UPP to produce any evidence of secret contacts between her and the UPP.

Parker had previously stated that she will focus her energy on her non-profit organisation, the Hands Up Foundation.

      • Such a sinked ship yet, Gaston doing everything in his power to destroy it.

If it’s sunk let it stay dunked. The chickens are coming home to roost. The UPP is in revival mode and Gaston using Joanne to try and destroy the UPP. He is a user. He used Donna, now Joanne. They are all useful idiots like himself.

        • @Byum.. so dead they are now stinking up the place. We will burry UPP as a national service (health). Even you if you are honest would admit you are tired of their stench

    • Jumbee_Picknee say, remove Sean Bird as a Candidate in Rural East, let him earn his keep in the UPP, and replace him with Maleka Parker!
If, Sean is serious about being a UPP Member he’d have no problem with this move by the UPP.
Sean can begin to work in Point and Villa, since, Alister will lose to Gaston with ABLP winning a close election!

      Mami_Wata & Papa_Elegba sends greetings with a #message.

      ABLP – 9 Seats
      UPP – 7 seats
      BPM – 1 seat!

  1. Jumbee_Picknee says…UPP needs to replace Sean Bird, in Rural East(let him earn his keep, to earn his medal); again, replace Sean Bird in Rural East with Maleka Parker.
While, Miss Parker’s strength is in Rural West, this would make a great match up, between her and Maria Bird.
This is where, DEBATES, debates, d e b a t e s are vital in strengthening, the political process.
By the way, what happened to the debates sponsored, by the UWIFI?

  2. I have a lot of respect for both Ms. Massiah and Ms. Parker. Clearly they had some diagreements about the direction their party should head in and some misconceptions about what each other was up to. So, now they are parting ways. It’s unfortunate that both these powerhouses could not continue to work together, along with the rest of their team to try create an amazing party option for the public to support. However, there is no reason to cast one as a villian and the other as a hero. No need to take sides. As a voter, I don’t particularly care about this squabble. All three parties have leaders whom I respect on some level. I’m most interested in the planned policies and programmes of each party – what will living in Antigua be like under their party? Both of the major parties have some planned policies I like and some I oppose or feel they neglect to address. DNA has had some good ideas for improving certain aspects of Antiguan living, economy etc in the past and at some point in the future, perhaps they will be a force to be reckoned with. In the meantime, there are many other talented and capable Antiguans and Barbudans who could fill spots in any political party (Younger ones might need a bit of training about the political system first though.) I wish both ladies all the best in the future. The nation should thank them for their service.

  3. Yawns we are tired of these politicians.

ANR how come y’all didn’t post up that J’Truth got a Leonard Tim Hector Impact Award for Distinguished Service and Social Activisim.
It’s like he’s sleeping with that award which he doesn’t deserve 🤣 next thing he get knighted when UPP win the imaginary election.

    Gaston Wept!!

    • @ RED RED

he will not be knighted but you will be made national hero extraordinaire

  5. Dear Harold Lovell
You seem to be a man who love to be everything to everybody. That is not good for a leader of people. Do not attempt to fix something that is not broken. You have a team that did the heavy lifting and is now set to reap the fruits of their hardwork. Do not inject any DNA people in that mix. To do that would cause discontent among the ranks. If you love them so much and you want to let them in, let them come in after the election and start to work. You cannot reward them by unsettling your team.

Ms Parker said she was not talking with anybody from UPP. That is a lie, and I have changed my support for her because I know for a fact that she was lying (Antigua smarl, smarl).

She sounds very conceited and overambitious with all she had to say. Whatever your feelings are for taking her back in, you need to slow your roll.

BTW, Gatie James was a member of the UPP before he joined the breakaway party DNA. He is just returning to a system that he had problems with.
