LOVELL: Clock ticking on by-election, UPP prepared to go to court over resignation issue

25

In a town hall meeting held last night, Harold Lovell, the former United Progressive Party (UPP) Leader and prominent Attorney-at-law, took the opportunity to express deep concerns regarding the speaker’s rejection of a resignation.

Lovell strongly asserted that the speaker’s actions were improper and lacking in authority, outlining potential legal action if efforts to reverse the decision were unsuccessful.

Addressing a passionate audience, Lovell began by acknowledging that disclosing every detail of the ongoing discussions and plans would not be in their best interest.

However, he emphasized the gravity of the speaker’s refusal to accept the resignation and the need to address the situation promptly.

Lovell firmly stated, “The speaker does not have the authority to reject any resignation,” sparking a sense of unease among attendees.

Citing the impropriety of the speaker’s actions, Lovell made it clear that legal action would be pursued if the speaker remained unyielding.

“If we fail to convince him to reconsider, we will take legal action. I can assure you that this will indeed happen,” Lovell declared, igniting a fervor of support from the crowd. He implored the speaker to acknowledge the mistake and spare the party the trouble of engaging in a legal battle.

Drawing attention to the UPP’s internal records, Lovell revealed that a countdown began on the day the speaker received the resignation.

He stated that the clock had been ticking for a fixed period of 120 days, suggesting that the speaker’s rejection may be in violation of established procedures.

Lovell’s assertion that the speaker’s decision lacked validity has propelled the UPP to brace themselves for a potential legal challenge.

Lovell’s passionate remarks made it clear that the UPP views this as a significant breach of protocol. Their commitment to pursuing legal recourse reflects a determination to rectify what they perceive as an infringement on their rights.

As the situation unfolds, attention will be focused on the speaker’s response to the UPP’s concerns and whether there will be any reconsideration of the rejection.

Efforts to obtain a comment or clarification from the speaker in response to Lovell’s statements have thus far been unsuccessful.

The coming days are expected to witness further engagement between the involved parties, with discussions aimed at finding a resolution or the potential initiation of legal proceedings.

As this story continues to develop, the town hall meeting served as a platform for Lovell to voice the UPP’s grievances and rally support from the public. The outcome of this conflict will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences for both the UPP and the speaker, shaping the future political landscape in the process.

  1. “I can’t help but feel sorry for poor Shugy. He did not understand that he joined a political party that “na lub nobody.” Even though he is not the brightest bulb in the pack, he should have known that he did not fit, in the eyes of the intellectual Giselle. There is no love or loyalty in the UPP. That is their track record.

They have set Shugy up to disqualify himself so that they can slide in Harold Lovell.
They do not want either Pringle or Lewis as Leader so they will start a campaign to beg Lovell to come back. Then, they run him in what they think is a safe seat so that he gets to Parliament and takes over as Opposition Leader. They gave poor Shugy bad legal advice, as the only way he can resign from parliament is by resigning from the Party Whip, and that means resigning from the party.

Did no one find it strange that Lovell suddenly emerged to appear on the platform of a UPP
Town Hall Meeting in St.Mary’s South? They say he will be there as a lawyer, but why not their former Attorney-General Justin Simon? Lovell is by no means an expert in the Constitution. But, he is there to test the waters.
    Poor Shugy”

    • @ Sad But True

Wasn’t it the Speaker who told Shuggy ‘the only way he can resign from parliament is by resigning from the Party Whip, and that means resigning from the party’.

Boy U BIRDIES ARE OH SO LIE! You are obviously paid by Gaston for the amount of deceptions, lie and untruths you utter. That’s why you are all a part of the 1% while poor people suffer in Antigua

    • One of the main differences between both parties is that there is democracy within the UPP; anyone is able to freely speak whereas in a dictatorship, you speak whenever the Mob Boss dictates and remember that you can second-guess him; ask Chet.

      • @rovi (naming just a few) melford, glentis Goodwin, Joanne messiah, imhorf Gordon, collin Derrick, namba, dean Jonas, Trevor young , laming newton, Collin Browne, evergreen.. will all state you are either speaking out of ignorance or you lie

        • @ Tenman

          No 10 men.
The fact that they were easily bought says a lot about their character- they sold their souls for a few pieces of silver rather than suffer persecution for a just cause and enjoy the pleasure of sin for a season (which will soon be over) and have the ‘dawg’ insisting that they openly show their loyalty by turning against their own principles.
That is a list that I will frame for the next election and we will see how many turn back!!
I am glad for the sifting, as the good book says, separate the wheat from the chaff.

  2. Kelvin ‘Shuggy’ Simon, there is something about you that members of the Labour Party fear.

I hear it in their utterances.

The labour party minions will someday talk about the child who went to pre-school and said, my daddy break my mommy hand; these minions will eventually tell us who lost a baby for another ‘political colleague’ and I can go on.

Mr. Simon, keep representing the people of St. Mary’s South and always remember the labour party minion dogs will keep barking.

    • Well said @ We ready. ABLP were out thought, outsmarted, and out manoeuvred by Kelvin Shuggy Simon’s moves.

Political chess at its finest, by him and the UPP.

      CHECKMATE I BELIEVE …

  3. ““If we fail to convince him to reconsider, we will take legal action. I can assure you that this will indeed happen,”

Wait they do not want to wait for the court because they have stated they have no faith in it (AB:P control it they say). Yet here is the spent force, well known for backtracking, making a threat. In the words of dirty harry “Go Ahead make my day”. NB Justice square with Chaku and Tabor as judge is not legal action

    • @ tenman, you are a NASTY individual with obvious connections to the ABLP government – this is one of the reasons I respond to your misleading and distorting comments.

You’ve never put the welfare of the citizens or Antigua first. Whereas I do!

Shuggy and the UPP outsmarted Gaston Browne and his legal cronies by his resignation, because anyone with a working brain, knows that the Prime Minister wins the majority of his legal actions.

Even though you will not admit it, our political system is now being scrutinised like it has never been done before, by many independent thinkers at home and abroad.

You’ve got this situation so so wrong, just like you did a couple of years ago when you encouraged fellow Antiguans to take the Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines, that has caused adverse reactions and deaths (deny it, I double dare you!).

YOU NASTY NASTY INDIVIDUAL – THERE’S A PLACE IN HELL FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU …

      • Please respond you ABLP SHILL and COWARD so that I can reveal your vaccine remarks and reveal the true tenman …

      • @brix.. actually it was our balwin Spencer moment of ” we have them.. we have them surrounded ” stated before the 2004 elections. Poor you I know in truth you were hurt by his announcement after you encouraged him to run though he breeched the law. This result is what happens when you let dishonesty be your guide

  4. the shirtless fete boy FAILED TO RESIGN BEFORE NOMINATION DAY! what a thing for a preacherman to do – break the rules, while preaching to others to keep the rules.

  5. They can run but they can’t hide. Dem ‘fraid licks but is licks dem go get. Not only are we going to end Samantha’s career in elective politics, we’re going to bury the ALP in SMS for good. Sir Robert’s ghost will haunt Gaston morning, noon, and night.

    • You going off feelings and not FACTS! The FACT is APOSTLE SHUGY SIMON of the NAZARENE CHURCH was NOT DULY NOMINATED!!!!!

And why mix with King Lyadd Lovell Limpy Joe aka Melford banging post??

      • @Smh yes persons like brix it’s all about what they desire and not about reality on the ground

  6. The count down to the by-election is on. Despite Gerry’s utterances, Labour is in full campaign mode. Don’t listen to what they say, just watch what they do! Set your voters card ready in St Mary’s South.

    • @ Really

Try all you can to sow division in the UPP. They do not need your advice.

Go and help Gaston against Chet etc who are PLOTTING TO UNSEAT HIM WITH THE ALLIANCE OF ASOT.

  7. Wonder why Serpent, Richard and the gunman didn’t show up to support Pringle at the swearing in ceremony at gov-t house?

  8. Well the clock done ticked on Lovell FAILED political LOSING STREAK “career” so why is Mr. Simon taking advice from a mediocre “lawyer” and “ROCKS & DIRT” specialist?
