Pares Basketball, Netball Courts Back in Use After 25 Years, Turner Says
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — Basketball and netball courts in Pares are back in use after 25 years, according to ABLP St. Peter candidate Rawdon Turner, who said the development signals renewed community activity in the area.
“After 25 years, life has returned to the basketball and netball courts in Pares,” Turner said in a public statement.
He described the moment as personal, recalling his own childhood connection to the facility. “I grew up playing on this court, so to see it alive again means more than words can explain,” he said.
Turner also addressed expectations around progress in the constituency, acknowledging that improvements may take time while defending his record. “I will never apologize for working hard for the people of this constituency. Progress may not always come as quickly as I would like, and I may not always be able to keep every promise as fast as I want—but I will always remain determined to serve,” he said.
In remarks that appeared aimed at political opponents, Turner added, “So let them continue running around the country, yapping away, instead of finding meaningful ways to serve the people they want to represent.”
He said he remains focused on delivering for residents. “As for me, I will keep doing the work.”
The statement comes as election campaigning intensifies, with candidates highlighting community developments as part of their outreach efforts.

These ALP politicians have no shame or is it the party that has no shame. 25 Years and Parham people boasted that Assot was the best thing ever!!!! Well folks from Williky voted the salad for 50 years so there must be some method to the madness.
“Turner Sa”… is he now a company registered in South America?
ABLP has been in charge of that area for donkey years. Is that supposed to be an accomplishment?
Dear Mr. Freeland,
I am a concerned citizen from the Powell’s community. I want to bring to your attention the recent changes in St. Peter’s, where a politician reopened a field for community use. In our area, the play field in Powell’s is also locked and controlled by cricket groups. We would like to see it opened up for broader access—especially for young people who need a safe space for basketball, recreation, and other activities. We would really appreciate your support in making this happen.
Me hear ALP suppose to ask Jesus to make an appearance too, they will bring down heaven on earth and all that they are doing will not improve our personal living conditions, what they give to white people and syrians and Chinese and themselves they not giving the ordinary Antiguan and barbudan people.
Vote UPP.
After 25 years hiatus???
Just wanted to smear mud on the UPP.
Well you have failed.
For the last twelve (12) years the administration seeking to take credit NOW has been in office.
Why wasn’t it done before?
Sports becomes a priority for the ALP only and whenever an election is here.
Turner was more interested in breaking up buildings in St Johns than giving the yiuth in Pares a proper sporting facility.
He is only doing it today becaiss if the elections.
Interestingly he has pictured the lights and not the facility.
They have lit the facility however it is still in its dilapidated state.
They didn’t renovate or resurface the facility.
Their priorities are misplaced.
Sports is an after thought for successive labour administrations.
Look around the entire island and the proof is visible.
