Dear Shugy
I am extremely sorry to hear about your loss in the Antigua’s 2026 general election.
At this moment I am still baffled and still trying to come to grips as to how you allow senator Dwayne George to defeat you.

In 2023, the record spoke for itself. Clearly, you were the people’s favorite and the perfect choice to be the representative for the constituency of St. Mary’s South.
Infact, in 2023 you created history in Antigua. You were victorious in two separate elections. The general & the by-election. It was evident that the ABLP candidates, Samantha Marshall & Dwayne George, were rejected by the masses and you, were the preference to be endorsed as the representative of the St. Mary’s South constituency.
Therefore Shugy, please tell me what went wrong for this 2026 election. The data from the polsters were also showing that you were leading by a very wide margin.
It is very unfortunate that after your endorsement as the representative, Dwayne George who was deemed as a loser and tagged with names like flip flop, Judas, betrayor etc is now the same Judas & betrayor been welcomed in open arms by the people who were once for you. From your perspective is this a screen play of “give us back Barrabas”?
Definitely, an introspection is required of you. Obviously, somewhere along your political journey you lost focus. As a sitting member in parliament, your obnoxious behavior was left to be desired. I am sure, such behavior did not sit too well with your fellow constituents.
Secondly, the disrespect of how you communicated to the PM in the sacred house of parliament was another area of concern and certainly uncalled for. Respect is paramount. There is always a time a place for everything.
Another area that peaked some interest was your frequency of going abroad and using a narrative that you are promoting and doing some studies as to how Antigua’s carnival can be improved but in reality you were partying & frolicing in other jurisdictions .
It is evident that while you were overseas having such frolic & fun, Senator Dwayne George, was smartly spending quality time in Antigua, looking after the businesses of the SMS constituents.
Interestingly, it seems to me that the SMS constituents realized that the love that you should have for the constituency was not there but it was a love for self & self enticement. Even your empty promises were like a comfort to a fool.
This election should be a wake up call for you and your colleagues in UPP. I am hoping that Dwayne George has not ended your political career. Perhaps you might be appointed as a senator.
Remember Shugy, being humble & respectful is the key that will get you to places along with the thought that charity always begins at home.
You can’t blame no one else but yourself for your loss. I do hope you will learn by your mistake.
Alex

I can no longer stay silent about what I see happening in Antigua. As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” The truth is that money swayed this election. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were handed out, and too many lives depend on this financial influence. Those who stay silent about corruption are just as guilty as those who commit it. The people know the truth, and the truth must be heard.
The same thing goes for Serpent. Both had so much potential but ended up being such disappointments. Serpent knew he wasn’t going to win a second term and chose not to run again, but Shugy, clearly delusional, had zero clue that his time was long over.
Based on the arguments that are put forward for the ABLP win in the 2026 elections, are those the same arguments that caused the UPP to almost win in 2023 and the ABLP lose. Both sides from what I have heard try to entice workers, it is just that generally the ABLP has deeper pockets. The UPP coming close in 2023 was due to Covid and other factors working in their favour. Even then they could not cross the line and it was money from Asot that helped them.
WINKKUP PASTOR can spend all his time “studying carnival” now.
Too arrogant, too cocky, too boastful, too full of self
Totally agree with your sentiments @Blame.
However, may I add that for such a God fearing country as ours, I’m at a complete loss as to why the silence from our Clerics, Clergy and Pastors on these immoral financial inducements by the ABLP.
Like you, I also worry about where we’re headed with this money for votes manipulation?
It doesn’t bode well for the future.
I hate to use the word corruption, but if it swims like a duck, walks like a duck and looks like a duck, well…
@alex it is highly hypocritical of you to talk about shuggy conduct in parliament..
Have you taken a serious look at gaston’s
behavior when he is in that honorable house?
This clearly is a case of don’t do as I do,do as I say!
Antigua is blinded by hypocrisy 🙄
Get thee behind me you red ants.
There is no such thing as a bad child..take the child out of that environment, and the child thrive.
@Brix. Many in Antigua do not see it as corruption, because that’s all they ever knew growing up..
It’s the ” mediocrity syndrome”.
In the Caribbean, many times not much is expected of you because of a certain family you’re from, while many who left the Caribbean get to see who they really are and were allowed to dream big and full full their true potential.
Sad..but it’s a serious and real thing in the Caribbean. When I was growing up, I was called ” Blacky” and even my friends who had a little lighter skin color than me, actually thought that they were attached to a better leaneage than me .so go figure. Ridiculous right? 😂 But if you keep drilling that type of thing in the heads of people, they eventually come to believe that lie.
There are so many phobia’s in the Carribean, that it will make your head spin. You hear that type of underhand disrespect all the time..
Many of our nicknames come from some of that same abusive derogatory outlook.
“Bighead, Blacky, starblack,4 eye, etc etc.
You get the point.
Mr Simon be comforted. Its a rough road ahead
This writer just want to flex off on shoogie and by extent UPP.
@ Sandra Clarke:: You seem to be one of the BLUE FLY that keeps buzzing around like a nuisance.
I will agree that the PM sometimes go out of bounds. However, Shugy & u need to realize that what will save the PM will hang either one of you. It’s just the irony of life.
Shugy is a new kid on the block…. As what the author penned in their letter, Shugy definitely needs exercise humility, wisdom & respect at this time of the game.
@Islanman26, like myself you sound like a well travelled and educated man. I got my education abroad as well as my profession.
Competition is fierce when it comes to promotion and seeking any managerial positions. I NEVER accepted anyone was better than me (especially Caucasians😉), so I embraced any competition; and furthermore, when I successfully succeeded in my managerial career in Europe, I wasn’t allowed to relax, because there was always someone breathing down my neck for my senior position.
Now fast forward to my return to Antigua to live, and then my surprise at coming across people who don’t know or cannot do their jobs properly.
From banking staff (including a bank manager who hadn’t a clue about data protection), utility staff who make things up when it comes to what proof of identity is required for validation (one staff will tell you what to bring and another one will say you bring the wrong documentation).
And then further up the chain of command – including the political classes -, senior positions are normally given out to family, friends and associates; and this “who you know” culture has been holding back Antigua for decades, but no-one will admit this!
Let’s keep holding those who run the country to account. Bless up boss ✊🏾
Don’t matter how much money if the people really fed u and want a change of heart jus like in 2004 it will happen…. That’s not the case now after just 10 years the country nearly collapsed under UPP many of us still remember that….. The people just don’t trust Pringle and Lovell SIMPLE!!!
@ watching from the side im buzzing like a blue fly 🤔
Have you ever been caught in a red ants nest?
Just awful 😖 😱 I would think..
Im a nuisance?
Wow, because im giving my opinion..eh?
Really??
Cause you pm is a vagabond..
From point… ahahaha…
You got water to bathe?
I doubt it!
Time for my nice warm shower 🚿
Take dat!
Red kool-aid drinker 😬
Ps.. shuggy is so handsome compared to your funny looking Hitler pm
Bye!!!
@This world.
I know you are smart enough to know what’s called ” The herd Theory”.
You do not have to convince everyone, you just have to persuade a few. (Sheep)
It’s politics, we get it, but just stop the hypocrisy..that’s all we are saying.
Call a spade a spade for once. GB has no comparison when it comes to seeking power at any cost.
It’s no shame in calling it that.
Stop trying to convince people that he’s just that good a leader, he’s not, otherwise intelligent and humble people like me would be following him as well.
And I don’t hate the man, just know who he is..have seen his type a few times before.
Just look back in history and you will know what I’m talking about. There is a reason many compare him to the Donald..it is just what it is guy.
Shuggy as well as the UPP failed to deal with the ABLP forever tactic. That is: aggressively pull down those who they consider a threat. Max Hearst said it so it’s not a secret; they did it to Lovell, Baldwin, Giselle, Pringle and now Shuggy. The problem is, Shuggy and the UPP failed, or are unable, to deal with this! My advice to them is to get help fast because ABLP’s way of poisoning the minds of the electorate is generational and will be a big problem for anyone who venture into politics on the opposite side to ABLP.
By the way, is one of the posters saying they are willing to accept any nonsense from Gaston but everyone else needs to be a statesman? If so, that is what hypocrisy looks like and that person should never be taken seriously.
UPP need to realize the people don’t trust Pringle and Lovell as much as they say Gaston this and Gaston that the country after 12 years is still afloat and doing well….Can’t say the same for UPP after the 10 years they were given…..Gaston is not perfect no one is yes he makes mistakes and many times I disagree with the government. At the day they have proven to be the better government and Pringle just by the way he speaks in parliament is not convincing anyone he should be the next PM….UPP PLEASE UNDERSTAND IT’S YOUR PARTY AND THE PEOPLE AT THE TOP WHO IS THE PROBLEM!!!!!
