LETTER: ‘Peter Redz’ Can Score A Goal For UPP

30
Harriette

Dear Editor,

I refer to your article indicating that National Footballer Tevaughn ‘Peter Redz’ Harriette is to contest a United Progressive Party Primary on August 27, 2020.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this announcement. I do not know how the primary process in the UPP works but it would be a grave error if he were no elected. The mere fact that the football star has shown interest in contesting the St. Peter seat on a UPP ticket, I think is excellent news for the party.

Redz could actually win this seat for the United Progressive Party and defeat Asot Michael since St. Peter is the most neglected constituency in Antigua. The time is ripe for change.

I voted for the UPP when they were first elected and I could vote of them again if Redz is elected. He is popular, he is bright, he is talented, he is well loved in the community, he is business oriented and sincere.

I can see all of St. Peter getting behind this candidate despite the spending power of the incumbent.

This is not to say that the other candidates are not qualified to run, but I doubt they can bring home at that seat for the UPP. Harriette stands the better chance and I hope those voting in the primary make the right choice because he is just what the UPP needs to energize its base.

Saint Peter

  1. Is he a man of principle, a man with values, a man of high moral standards? I don’t know him, but what is his character like? These are serious times. Thank you.

    • Valid questions Sherri K, and they should be answered.

I however wonder if you and others are asking the same questions of the ABLP candidates/representatives. If you do, and the nation use those as a guide to decide who they will vote for, then the ABLP dead in the water.

They are nothing but a bunch of greedy, corrupt, inept, unprincipled, self-serving vagabonds.

  2. I am real proud when I see this young man put himself up to be in the political field kudos to Peter Redz I know him as a footballer and I know he have alot of followers as well I wish him all the best in the primary. If the young lady win more powers to woman.

  3. To be a football star does not automatically qualify for him to be a political representative for a constituency. I am not underestimating the youngster, but it would be nice to know about his character, his ability to lead and his track record relative to his contribution to his community, besides being a football player….. Remember, cockroaches have no right to be any fowl coub!

    • If the Worst Finance Minister who is a lawyer can be “leader” of the UPP, then even a footballer deserves a chance.

    • @Bluddy Bloke: What are the qualifications to be a Politician? Look at the ABLP Cabinet. What qualifies them to represent a Constituency.Lie for years.Thief from the people.Listen to those IHI tapes. One of the main actors on those tapes.Sounds very much like someone I heard in the present Parliament.By the way ask your Representative up there. If Bellwood Corporation is still in existence.

    • Really? And you think those politicians in politics right now have good character? Hmmmm

  4. Hmmmmmm it would be interesting to get from you the the required qualities to be a leader of a political party and also the qualities to be a candidate in the general election. I patiently await your answer.

    • @TABOR
Deep within your heart Are you HONESTLY happy with the CANDIDATES presented so far by UPP ? ABLP CANDIDATES are TOUGH / ROUGH CAMPAIGNERS. As you are aware that the UPP has some heavy lifting ahead of Them according to Peter Wickham. Hon Gaston Browne attracts WINNERS not RUNNERS. This is the Policy UPP should put in place.
UPP so far does not strike me that They are serious. UPP has too many INTERNAL PROBLEMS…I.E.Petition in St. Phillips South….Driftwood Situation in St. Pauls , Problems in St. Peter and list goes on. How can you manage an Election when You cannot manage your INTERNAL PROBLEMS ?

      • You guys soujd like idiots. What did we know about Teko Lake before he returned to Antigua? What about Mochael Browne? Has he finished his doible doctorate as yet? What position has Daryll Matthews held other than president of the Basketball association? What was Robin before he got into politics? Maria has a Master’s degree from an unknown online university. What about Max Fernandez? Does owning deluxe quality you to run for politics? Just give me a damn break.

  5. How can UPP Executives conform to this WASH YOUR FOOT and COME POLICY. I can say UPP DO NOT take this election serious. These People are NOT Qualified to run for office. I cannot believe that UPP standards drop to the BOTTOM of the barrel. I shall vote DNA next election . There is NO formidable UPP CANDIDATES for 2023. I try matching the UPP CANDIDATES presented so far by constituency to ABLP and there is NO WAY that these Candidates can beat ABLP CANDIDATES. UPP need CANDIDATES like in 2004.

    • @Sullivan.P
Who you are crying for have gone – Cort, Maginley, Nunes – gone! Get over it! You sound little boogyish. Like it’s only those people could run the country. Well they did some running, but it was after the party lost. THEY RAN AWAY! Stop crying over spilled milk. If some of you would get up off your lazy, selfish a%#s and get involved, then the pool of selection would be bigger and better. But you alljust want others to do it for you while you sit down in the back and criticize.
I agree some of the candidates UPP choosing look iffy. They are waiving all the rules to push people in as candidates and that could backfire on them.
I am going with Peter in St Peter because of the 3, he is the best. Zoo is a big joke. He is not interested in fighting to win. He just want to be there sucking up under Giselle and Harald. The young woman is a mess. She has serious issues and the word is on the road that she “put it pan Harald” because she thought she would have it easy like Anthony Smith.
UPP has problems but is much better than Labour anytime any day. Forget DNA. They are a mess. All their members falling like rain. Evergreen is waiting on Joanne to move over to Labour. Wat a ting?

    • @sullivan p same thing I am saying it is time Antigua and Barbuda people stand up to these two political parties and show them something and maybe they will learn a good lesson. Everyone in Antigua and Barbuda should vote DNA this time around. These two parties believe Antigua and Barbuda belong to them. It is to damn long they are talking Antiguans and Barbudans for fool. RISE UP RISE UP RISE UP people make a change Antigua and Barbuda need a drastic change some people need to understand that is we the people have the POWER. Show them what will happen when they take us for granted. POOR PEOPLE OF THIS NATION RISE UP AND TAKE A STAND. Show them election hand out cannot cut it anymore.

  6. I heard an Interview with Cleon Athill. She is an INTELLIGENT Person but not for POLITICS. She said that She a FEMINIST , AN ATHILL and a MOVEMENTEER. She never mentioned anything about UPP. She should not be on UPP ticket. She does not have what it takes for POLITICS.

  7. @CHARLES TABOUR, politics is one thing, administering a country’s affairs is another…. People’s wellbeing is not something to play with….! Besides having a descent character, we need persons who has a track record of good management/leadership qualities and not persons, like some in the past, who would request to ” bear with them” bcuz its a learning experience for them while in the hot seat. As for parliamentary representation, we can’t afford to have another Pringle in the house…..

    • Just save your breath Bluddy Bloke. It makes no sense to engage with Mr Tabor. He is blinded by his intellect and ego. In Mr Tabor’s eyes the UPP was the best thing since slice bread. So why is it the UPP who was so great so wonderful lose two election back to back to the ABLP that full of theives, rouges and vagabounds. Some wrong there. And they going to lose this next elections to. I’ll give them 5 seats the most and this me being generous.

  8. Bluddy Bloke I agree with you to some extent when you say that we need people with a track record of good management/leadership qualities. Now, I will ask the question why are you guys expecting so much more (sometimes the impossible) from UPP candidates compared to those of the ALP. I will give you just one example to support my point. When Maria Bird Browne was parachuted in (and lawyer Alincia Grant would agree with me) to be the candidate of SJRE what track record did she have other than being the wife of Gaston Browne.? Dr. Cleon Athill is a first time candidate on the UPP ticket as Maria Bird Browne was on the ALP ticket. Now, Bluddy Bloke in all honesty and objectivity can you compare Maria Bird Browne to Cleon Athill in terms of prior track record before entering politics. Even the blind, deaf and dumb would tell you that Cleon is head and shoulders more qualified than Maria. I could give many more examples but in this case one would suffice. As they say, I rest my case and await your counter argument.

    • @ TABOR

Cleon Athill is old enough to be Maria Browne’s Mother. Wrong Comparison. Mrs. Maria Browne has accomplished more at Her age than Cleon Athill. Tabor you are HELL bent on defending UPP at all cost.

Why You and Your Son Damani don’t run for politics ? You Guys are hiding behind something.

      • PHILLIP G you are missing the point. The comparison between Maria and Cleon is not about age but rather what both persons brought to the table when they both entered the political arena. I say Maria brought nothing other than she was the wife of Gaston Browne. I really do not have to outline to you what Cleon has brought. The reason why this discussion and comparison is important is to refute the nonsense of the ABLP propagandists that the UPP candidates are not qualified on entering politics and that they should be. Again, the million dollar question is: was Maria Bird Browne qualified when she entered politics?

        • @ CHARLES TABOR

MARIA BROWNE is young and DYNAMIC. CLEON ATHILL looks Old and TIRED. Cleon does NOT speak well . Cleon has DECEIVED the Members of the MOVEMENT ORGANIZATION and I go on and on. Tabor your ears are not on the Streets so you are WRAPPED up in your IVORY TOWERS and talk because you have a mouth. I know what is going on. UPP is having lots of INTERNAL PROBLEMS.
JAMALE PRINGLE said on OBSERVER yesterday that Antigua has 80% UNEMPLOYMENT. This Guy should be immediately removed from PARLIAMENT. He is the worst that ever happened to the UPP and Antigua and Barbuda. Very Shameful.

    • PROPHET their is really nothing in your post to respond to. However, since you require a response I will oblige. Yes, I am completely happy with the UPP slate of candidates so far. The ABLP though seems to be quite concerned about our candidates. I do not know why but can only hazard a guess that they are driving fear into Gaston Browne and his government. I see you have tried to describe the ABLP candidates. My description for them is tough, rough and corrupt. And by the way, if the UPP candidates are so bad, the ABLP should show less concern about them and be just happy. Despite the so-called internal problems that you talk about, which exist in all political parties, those problems will not prevent the UPP from winning the next general elections.

      • @Tabor, @Prophet did not deserve a response. Anyways, I was hoping that you would have thrown your hat in the ring to be a candidate. You and Giselle would have made an already strong slate even stronger.
