LETTER: I give the majority of Antiguans on social media an F

17

Dear Editor of Antigua Newsroom,

I saw a letter to ANR giving the PM an A for Education development. I agree but I give the majority of Antiguans on social media an F.

When I see some of the posts, I have to ask myself if education has taken away simple common sense. Is it too much education? and are we now producing what my granny used to call’ Educated Fools”?

I have been following local FB pages since the Pandemic started and I am amazed at some of the moronic comments. Are these the people that we have been spending millions of dollars to educate? Where are the critical thinkers?

Now with the fuel increase it has gone beyond stupid. Is it that Antiguans live in a world of their own which is on a different planet, 90% of Antiguans have some sort of device which gives them internet, are they only watching Divorce Court, Basketball Wives, African movies and porn?

Fuel prices have gone up worldwide. Here in Antigua, we produce nothing. We import everything.

Why is it so hard to understand that if fuel prices go up everything else will rise. The electricity used to produce everything we import is produced by fuel.

The container trucks that move the containers of goods destined for Antigua move on fuel.

The ships that bring the cargo to us are using fuel.

The container trucks that move the cargo from Deep Water Harbour to the supermarkets use fuel.

All along that chain the prices will go up. So, when it finally gets on the shelf in a local supermarket or store, all of those increases will be reflected in the prices.

That is reality. What this worldwide economic crisis calls for is a lifestyle change. It calls for personal responsibility. And this may not be a bad thing.

Maybe now people will begin to live and eat in a healthy manner thereby saving the country millions of dollars annually to look after people who are obese, with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and kidney failure.

Many will spend thousands on partying and then complain that they have no money for food and rent.

Stop complaining about the things over which we have no control and take control of your life. If you don’t you have only yourself to blame.

Signed- True Davis

  1. People will always choose spending on luxuries than on necessities. It’s the nature of an ill-disciplined society.

Most of us don’t really budget our monthly earnings with particularity to what’s key, such as recurring expenses and savings. We complain about the things over which we have no control.

It’s always easier to blame the government for our financial mismanagement than to take stock our lifestyle.

The fuel price surge is being felt all across the globe at this time, not knowing when we will see some relief.

Lets all take responsibility for your own actions as we forge our way through this new conundrum.

I can promise that there will be light at the end of this. Be encouraged.

  2. How can the pensioners that isn’t getting their monies take control over their lives? Maybe, that’s what the author of this crap letter should be concerned about – instead they wasted precious time writing about people who, by the way, have a right to express their opinions regardless of whether they’re nonsensical or not. Tell the government to be more concerned about the elderly having FOOD to eat and less concerned about criticism.

  3. BUSHT CHIT LETTER AGAIN.

BUT IT WAS UPP’S FAULT FOR THE FINANCIAL CRISIS IN 2008/2009.

GASTON HAVE NO FINANCIAL SKILLS OR COMMON SENSE, ANYTHING HE DOES IS A COPY CAT FROM UPP.

    THE BOI DUNCE DUNCE DUNCE.

CALL THE ELECTION NOW AND VOTE DEM OUT

  4. @True Davis… You should taken the advise that you gave in your last sentence. “Stop complaining about the things over which we have no control and take control of your life.” This is the most moronic letter I have ever read. Stupid is as stupid says

  5. wait, hold up
no back up, no wait ….reverse again

like the letta writa miss de point: everything garn up but people dam pay!!!!
eat healthy when ah mango mi ah nyam fu lunch and dinner nowadays

Look Mr. True, talk for yourself and your kind, not everybody spend on fete (@partypolice) and hairstyle (that one is for Dr.Ray)

  6. Your right about the title “F” indeed,
    This letter is very abstract.

Inflation occurs when there’s too much money in the economy and not enough stuff to spend it(yes the bank accounts fat) because supplies can’t meet demands so arbitrarily they raise the price to devalue the dollar and return it back to its original spending power it was before. So the prices are high but the value is settled (after a course of time obviously). rmr Covid the money grants and free whatever and supplies chains slowed up all have had issues after all these save the economy agenda they had. So yes it was planned because it’s not the first time recession has happened this way.

Long story short we are pegged to the US Dollar and if they inflate we inflate even if we only had that free money stuff Antigua govt offers $200 every 2 months to unemployed ppl, our prices must reflect the margin of the dollar it’s pegged to, and it’s business so when u buy it’s gonna be resold significantly higher.

So all this we import nothing and parties and saving ur money for the long term makes what sense exactly to say if u don’t know what recession, inflation or what the side effects of Covid is that being. If it pertained with the war, then he should say because the primary beneficiary of the petrol that Russia had supplied is cut the other nations are forced to buy from other sources. Just like any business when u switch suppliers over continued time it incurs price hikes cuz it’s not ur regular purveyors.

Think u should be more respectful in your letter than to embarrass yourself saying all these as if ur a parent scolding their child wrongfully on how you feel they spend their money their way they feel fit.

Recession and inflation is just a nice way to say hey the central banks not private ones want back all that money they gave u to use so they can steer the economy back. If they don’t then your money will be a lot in your account but useless. Basically a millionaire of 2 cents value lmaooo.

    Educated fools indeed lmaooo
Why do I know all these things but so many in this country don’t it’s wild

Lmaoo this country amuses me each time

  7. I fully understand and in agreement with what u are saying. BUT.
#1 EATING HEALTHY IS VERY EXPENSIVE IN ANU.
#2 EVERYTHING HAS GONE UP AND U EXPLAIN THE CAUSES. SO TELL ME NOW HOW ARE WE GOING TO EAT HEALTHY AND MONITOR OUR LIVES PROPERLY AS WE SHOULD WHEN EVERYTHING IS HIGHER THAN BUGGY PEAK N KEEP GOING UP? THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS MISSING HERE (SALARY) 4THE PAST LET ME SAY 5 OR SO YRS SOME OF US ###FRONT-LINE WORKERS HAVEN’T RECEIVED A BUGGY PEAK SALARY EVEN SOCIAL SECURITY GOING UP EVERY YEAR I WOULD WANT TO BELIEVE EVERYTHING HAVE GROWTH HORMONES EXCEPT SALARY.
I’M NOT EXPECTING THINGS TO REMAIN THE SAME BUT WHY SALARY HAS TO? PERSONS WOULD WANT TO BECOME ENTREPRENEURS BUT THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT ALLOW US. THERE ARE A LOT OF PERSONS OUT THERE WHO ARE NOT PARTYING WORKING HONESTLY BUT STILL HAVING SERIOUS CHALLENGES MAKING ENDS MEET.
