  2. This is flabbergastingly unfathomable. Why would anyone choose to fight to remain a candidate for a party that is adamant on cutting ties with him or her? There’s some reason for this. I am of the view that the good gentleman realizes that he would face an uphill battle to maintain his grip in that constituency.
    Let’s see how this plays itself out.

    • @Dave Ray, move to the very head of the class. You, Sir, have peeked Asot Michael’s card. Those who egg him on do so not because they believe he is a good politician or that he is good for the country. They do so simply because they want to see mayhem in the ABLP. Asot will ultimately lose this battle against the ABLP and he will certainly lose his seat in St. Peter. This is what he trying to prevent because he knows that the majority of his support comes because he is a member of the party. If he is so confident that he can win the seat through his own efforts, why not simply take it to the ABLP in an election, defeat their candidate and earn bragging rights. The truth is bleaker for him: he CANNOT win without the ABLP, but the ABLP without Asot WILL win St. Peter. That IS his problem!

    • Dave Ray you have lost me here with your logic. I guess you meant that if the good gentleman ran as an independent he would lose hence his fight to remain on the ALP ticket.

    • BECAUSE THE PARTY DON’T BELONG TO NOBODY, NO 1 PERSON CAN’T THROW ANYONE OUT OF THE PARY. THE SHOULD HAVE A PRIMARY AND THEY WAS A SCARED TO HAVE IT. THE CONSTITUTION OF THE PARTY SAID A PRIMARY SHOULD KEEP BEFORE A PERIOD OF TIME AND THAT TIME AS PASSED.

  5. It will be interesting to see the next move of the Executive of the ALP. However, the position as expressed in the letter from Asot’s lawyer is absolutely correct. Based on the Revised Constitution of the ALP a Primary to select candidates for a general election must be conducted 12 months before the date for the general election. The next general election is constitutional due in March 2023. As a consequence, the Executive of the ALP has run out of time. Personally speaking, that requirement of the ALP Revised Constitution is most nonsensical. The question now is will Asot run as a candidate on the ALP ticket after all the pronouncements of Gaston Browne against such a reality? Or will the ALP go into the election with 16 candidates leaving Asot off its ticket to run as an independent? The next few months will be very interesting.

  13. Actually, it’s 13 months to the date of election. Remember you have up to 90 days after it’s due date. Spencer did that in his last election! There is time to deal with this matter!

    • It is 12 months prior to the constitutionally due date. The constitutionally due date is 23 March, 2023. The 90 days after in which the election can be called does not apply.

      • I really don’t know who you refer to as “good gentleman”. Surely not Asot Michael? Nothing good in that rotten apple. He is as despicable as they come. Had warned my good friend Lester from day one that he was making the biggest mistake of his life by bringing him so close to him. I’m glad Gaston did what was necessary. It was bold of him to do. As money usually buys many people. And votes. The reason election campaigns are expensive and need to be financed by large givers. Whether here or anywhere else in the world. I tip my hat for him to stand on principle. Not like Baldwin Spencer that said, “One Strike and you’re out”, but when things starting to happen he didn’t have the testicular furittude to do so.

      • You mean to tell me Lawyers have to refuse cases because of their personal conviction of the matter they have to defend.
        Lets bring it hypothetically. A man rapes your best friend’s daughter, he comes to you for his legal defends. You tell me you will take the case just because you are a lawyer. This case is poison for the ALL-stalwarts labour party members. And given that his father and his sister are in the executive, and his sister is also part of the firm, he should not have taken the case at all. Unless he has an ax to grind. Cause I do not believe it could be money.
        And you know the stupidity of this all is. In the end worst case scenario Asot runs on a ABLP ticket, like he is now an elected member. He will not have a portfolio, but I’ll bet you Turner will be given a ministry to run.
