Kerzner International Holdings Limited recently unveiled plans for a new One&Only resort and Private Homes community in Antigua, set to open in 2027. Nestled on the tranquil southeastern side of the island at Half Moon Bay, the 132-acre site will boast a semi-circular beach, embraced by a protected national park and captivating cliffs with sweeping Caribbean vistas.

The resort’s architectural design will seamlessly blend with the natural surroundings, prioritizing minimal impact on the ecosystem. Embracing Antigua’s architectural heritage with a modern twist, the resort will feature indoor-outdoor living spaces and chic interiors, drawing inspiration from the island’s rich history.

Known for crafting unique guest experiences, the One&Only brand ensures visitors will relish Antigua’s natural wonders, wildlife, cuisine, and culture amidst the pinnacle of luxury and hospitality. Philippe Zuber, CEO of Kerzner International, expressed excitement, affirming the development aligns with their commitment to exceptional resorts.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne shared his enthusiasm, hailing the Half Moon Bay resort as a Caribbean hospitality landmark and the flagship of Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism. This Antigua opening is part of a series of highly anticipated One&Only resorts worldwide, including locations in Dubai, Greece, and the United States.

  1. Have we not heard and seen this all b4. I’d like to see a spade breakkng the earth b4 mr Brown and i see eye to eye.

  2. The fringe economy continues..everything happening on the outskirts of the island, and nothing happening in the middle for the real people of Antigua, where they are getting robbed, gun but, raped, murdered, and nothing being done for them.

More hotels my Arse..nothing to celebrate here Gatson, not a damn thing.

  3. Seeing is believing. So folks, believe it when you have seen it.Until then,do not hold your breath on this pie in the sky of a project.

  4. Question to all and sundry. What has become of that new so called City at Willoughby Bay? There was supposed to be a Hotel built on the old Half Moon Bay Hotel site. What has become of that Project? Promises, promises, promises.NO PRAMISE UM,BUILD UM NOW, TOO MANY BLASTID PRAMISES.

  5. More ‘plans’ again. The recolonization continues. And when it all falls through they keep and resell the land?

    Whatever. No thanks.

  6. This project is going to destroy the tranquility and charm of Half Moon Bay and line the pockets of a few. Your Island is being sold off under your noses and your freedom is being destroyed.

  7. @ Michael Scott,
You are so right. But this project and many others go beyond the Creative Enrichment Program.

Lester Bird went to college in Michigan where he met a dynamic Bahamian. That was the period in which he was introduced to the idea of Free Zones. Many of the economic development ideas that are thought of to be Lester Bird originals are second grade copies of several develoment concepts in the Bahamas.

For those who know the history of Caribbean economic development; you would know about The Harksbill Creek Agreement which turned that turned a portion of Grand Bahamas into what we know today as Freeport. (a terrible agreement in my view)

When Sol Kerzner bought Resorts International on Paradise Island from Merv Griffin in the mid 90s; among the standard requirements were that the management jobs would go to indegenous Bahamians only. Not “Conkey Joes” or migrants called “Ex-patiots”.
During the development planning and construction native Bahamians were identified trained to be the General Manager as well as the heads of each department.

The development of Great Harbour Cay (an entire island) in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas was stalled and abandoned in the middle of construction for over 25 years when the developers out of Europe attempted to circumvent the requirement of hiring native bahamians.

Unlike the Bahamas who we try to emulate in our development initiatives; we fail miserably in the development of our people.

Lester missed the memo about “I am Black and I’m proud” So Antigua and Barbuda rather than having a derisive (defensive) term like the Bahamians for The “Conky Joes”; Antigua and Barbuda has the: “LIGHT BRIGHT AND DAM NEAR WHILE” (LBADNW).

Onlike the Bahamamian people, we in Antigua and Barbuda hold others to a higher esteem and value other because of their skin color over ourselves. We are not a proud people. We talk a little smack now and then; but our core is wanting to be like others.

It’s our lack of self esteem why we continue to vote they way we do. We want to have the shinny trinkets which we think brings us respect and prestiege.

This One and only resort and the residences will get built some day; and we will be the maids, taxi driver and landscapers. We will be placed in positions where the personal dynamics will be of “The Massa and theservice workers.

V C Bird and the ALP took out out of the fields, Lester/ the ABLP and his sucessors sees our role as cleaning tiolets and picking up trash.

No need for the trianing and mentoring of Senior managers and executives. We now have a generation who says: who needs tranquility when they have the VUM! VUM! RAH! RAH! of One Nation Concert?

That state of mind is highlighted by Gaston Browne in his defence of the One Nation Concert where infered the possibilty of between established and emerging artists. The only mentoring this dunce can imagine is one of the creating of more low brow offerings.

    • When you visit the Bahamas, you notice the high standard of living and the beautiful homes owned by hotel workers. Does the Bahamas government have a policy of selling out their country by stuffing their pockets and then giving away all the taxes to the developers and allowing them to pay starvation wages to their citizens?
The leader of Antigua said that only foreigners work at hotels because of the low wages. Because of the low wages, they can only afford to live in the ghettos. The Bahamas doesn’t allow people in their country to take their jobs. They may allow in maids and gardeners but they have to be sponsored. Unless the laws have been charged recently, the non nationals cannot get residency no matter how long they live in the country. The Bahamian people like it this way as one of them told me they don’t want their country overrun by foreigners as their country is too small.
Antigua government don’t care about Antiguans and Antiguans. Antigua is just a means to their prosperity.

  8. Do you notice that most of the hotel developers are building private homes as part of their development? Soon all the beautiful beaches won’t be available to the natives and when they take over the country, they will vote in their own government. I remember as a child the locals did not have access to Half Moon Bay.
