A section of Keeling Point Pier collapsed on Thursday sending fishermen and their day’s catch into the water.
According to reports, no one was seriously injured but fishermen complained the pier had been in a dilapidated condition for years.
Deputy Chief Fisheries Officer Tricia Lovell reportedly told state media there is no agency responsible for the upkeep of the pier, which was erected as a temporary facility years ago during work on the Market Wharf.

That sad looking thing is in Donovan by Greenbay. It is a pity.It had to come to this.Where persons could have been seriously hurt. There should have been a collaborative effort.Between the Fisheries Dept and Fisher folks to maintain that Pier.As a matter of fact. That area is around the St Johns Harbor. There should be eateries around that area. With some sort of night life.Things to really attract visitors to that area of St.Johns.Not everything in the heart of the City.Let us begin to think out side of that square.Get out of our to comfort boxes.
So wha mek u nak com an fix um oh yea ya only job ah fu sit down behind ya phone an chat crap all day
I am from Donovans. Why should I come and fix it?You have persons in Antigua getting 5 and 6 paychecks monthly.Let them get off their fat backsides.Do the work for which they are getting paid.A set of frauds.
@ Blackman, very good point, all this area can and should be developed for tourism
And it will if you have paid attention to the development plans of the government for that area. Just you sit and watch. it’s because of Covid things have slowed down.
From the Sidelines:All you Politicians do is talk.Let the people see some actions.I have been hearing all kinds of crap across all Administrations. You,Politicians and Party Insiders do not care a damn about the people of the Grays/Green Communities. If you did, that entire area would not be a slum.Look at the area of Perry Bay.Now you are talking about Covid-19. Covid-19 came about this very year,2020.If we were to sit and watch as you implied. We would never get up.Therefore we would get no where. We would all be fat and bloated.Full of hot air, fluff.
Only a very stupid person would walk on something that looks so unstable. These fishermen should have been stopped long time from using this so called pier. DCA and Fisheries are sleeping on the job.
The fishermen and those who use the pier should blame themselves for the deterioration & collapsing of the pier…. For a very long time the writing was on the wall that the pier would collapse one day….. The fishermen who engage their trade there has taken the condition for granted… Yes, they may have voiced their concerns but in my view their voices have not been loud enough.. Infact, action speaks louder than words. At that location, would be an ideal point to let their actions be seen & heard…. Parham, Urlings & Point has a fishing complex, it is unclear as to why the former PM did not demand one in his constituency, knowing that many of his constituents ply their trade from that point

How tf can u say we are stupid when we have been at the governments ass for years to do something about it we even offered to go half and half with the government to repair the dock it is very hurting for u to say something like that when ur in ur home or job living a happy life, this is our job.wtf u want us to do where tf u wants us to go honestly u need to shut tf up if u don’t know the situation plzzzzzzzzzzz and thaks
Anymore explicit language to drive my point. Now that it has fallen apart what the F will you do. The same thing you should have done before it came to this stage. You cannot blame others for your stupidity. There is an obvious risk walking on that so called pier. So if you want to take that stupid change I have the right to call you that. You have people working in government buildings that are not fit to work in. If they continue to do so and an accident happened its their stupidity. Everyone has the right to a safe working environment. And when the risk is blatant and clear to see one should not willingly go into that. If the sea is rough and you know there is a change for you to lose your life, would you still go out to fish? Please when making comment do not try to impress with foul language rather make intelligent points for consideration and discussion. I wonder when that pier was build and by whom. DCA should have never approved it.

Why wouldn’t public works be responsible for this
That pier was a temporary pier when the St.John’s pier at the market was being erected. When the St. John’s pier was completed, in my position of worked I suggested to a very Senior Minister in the UPP Admin. that the pier be removed and he in no uncertain terms said, “I cannot do that”.
Polititions do not listen to people, they feel they know it all. Look what happened years after, people could have lost their lives. Thank God it did not go that way.
change your name from Wicked to Profit. Cause you did prophesied
Caring Gaston Browne said he will fix it
This man amazes me every time.
No money yet you’re doing all these things
UPP could and would’ve never done that
UPP this,UPP that,UPP were voted out of Office for the past 6 years plus now.So why blame the UPP. Does anyone in Antigua takes responsibility for anything that goes wrong?
