A judge has stepped aside from a high-profile legal dispute involving businessman Jack Stroll and the Global Bank of Commerce, just as the matter appeared to be nearing a final decision.
Justice Renee Williams informed attorneys for both sides that he would no longer preside over the case, citing personal reasons. No further explanation was provided.
The case has since been reassigned to Justice Birnie Stephenson and adjourned to July 23 to allow the new judge time to review the proceedings.
The court also directed that a comprehensive timeline of the case be prepared. It further indicated that no additional applications will be entertained at this stage while it determines how to proceed.
