Charged for smoking in public

Jamie Darroux, a 34-year-old man from Herberts, has pleaded guilty to cannabis-related offences after police found him smoking in public and carrying more than the legal limit.

He appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel following his arrest in Potters on March 23. Officers on patrol reported seeing him smoking near the Registration Unit, and a search uncovered 21 grams of cannabis—six grams above the permitted amount, valued at $210.

Darroux was charged with public smoking and possession over the legal threshold. He was granted bail on his own recognizance, with sentencing set for March 30.

Authorities have stepped up enforcement, with public smoking offences carrying fines of up to EC$2,000 under current law.
