Irma makes landfall on Barbuda

The Met Office has confirmed that the sister island of Barbuda is now experiencing Hurricane force winds.

Hurricane Irma made landfall on Barbuda just before midnight. So far, winds of 75 miles per hour are affecting the island.

There have been no reports of major damage on the island but residents have confirmed fallen trees.

Hurricane Irma is a powerful category 5 hurricane packing winds of 185 miles per hour.
