Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service Said: Hurricane Season Starts Soon — Are You Ready?
The Atlantic & Central Pacific hurricane season (including Hawaii) runs June 1 – Nov 30.
The Eastern Pacific season starts May 15.
But don’t wait for the season to begin — now is the time to prepare.
Rushing last-minute can put lives at risk. Here’s how to get ready early:
1. Make an Evacuation Plan
Know where you’d go and how you’d get there. You don’t need to go far—just somewhere safe from flood zones.
Don’t forget your pets!
Find Your Evacuation Zone
2. Assemble Disaster Supplies
Stock up NOW on food, water, meds, flashlights, chargers, radios, and pet supplies.
Be ready for at least 3 days, but longer is better.

Prepare Your Pets
3. Get an Insurance Checkup
Review your coverage.
Remember: Home insurance doesn’t cover floods!
Flood insurance has a 30-day waiting period — act now.

4. Create a Communication Plan
Write down emergency contacts and meeting places—don’t rely on the internet during a disaster.

5. Strengthen Your Home
Secure the garage, trim trees, install shutters, and seal openings.
Buy plywood or metal panels early — don’t wait until the storm is on the radar.

Summer and Hurricane just doesnt go together at all.
I always forget to check my emergency kit until the season starts. Definitely doing it earlier this year.
I still need to update my insurance. Thanks ANR for the reminder!
