Guyanese warned about Christmas parties and gatherings.

The National COVID-19 Task Force has issued a stern warning against unauthorised events and breaches of the national curfew but noted that conditional approvals for some activities can be requested.

The Task Force Secretariat issued a holiday advisory on December 20 and as part of this advisory, the Task Force reminded all individuals that entertainment events are prohibited and people are prohibited from attending parties, receptions or discotheques.

NEWSROOM: These restrictions are part of the COVID-19 regulations made under the Public Health Ordinance and published in the Official Gazette.

Additionally, there is a national curfew in place from 00:00 hrs (midnight) to 04:00 hrs.

Instead of these prohibited events, the Task Force noted that persons may celebrate the traditional aspects of Christmas within their households. Religious observances are covered under the guidelines for places of worship in the COVID-19 regulations.

Such measures are of particular importance due to the enduring COVID-19 pandemic and the impending threat of the new Omicron variant.

“The National COVID-19 Task Force urges Guyanese to demonstrate responsible behaviour and extends best wishes for the holiday season to all,” the advisory stated.
