Gov’t Prepares To Collect Tax For University Campus

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda says it made a decision to have the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) bring in a team of Forensic Auditors to examine the annual publications of profit and loss statements submitted by financial institutions.

The audit will cover insurance companies, telecommunications companies, other major corporations and the sole fuel provider, in order to ensure that these firms are in full compliance with the tax laws of Antigua and Barbuda.

This is being undertaken as the government prepares to collect a windfall tax to fund the operation of the Five Islands Campus of the UWI.

Their tax payments will form the bedrock of the UWI Fourth Landed Campus.

Other contributions will be forthcoming from the Prime Minister’s Scholarship set-aside, and other sources both public and private, the government has said.
